Also, what is February 5th? Did I miss something? I believe that's the date of the volleyball banquet at Minnesota!

Wow. Idk, would they really introduce the new head coach at the banquet? I feel like the night should belong to the seniors and Coach Hebert. Unless the new coach is Scotty, I don't think it would be appropriate.

Swanson will be the new head coach. I'll have to see it before I believe it. If that's the case, I'm sure it's an interim basis.

What about Debbie Brown from Notre Dame or some other coach from the Big East or ACC? Perhaps we are all way off the mark on this one. I would be shocked if a female coach was selected. The Big 10, like the Pac 10, prefer men. Another great post backed by all the facts....except the real ones. Lets look at the Big 10 hires over the last 10 years. 2003 Purdue - Dave 2005 Michigan State - Kathy 2007 Indiana - Sherry 2008 Iowa - Sharon 2008 Ohio State - Geoff 2009 Illinois - Kevin That would make for 6 hires....3 men and 3 women

And don't forget that the Pac-10 added Colorado and Utah, both female coaches!

Question: If it is Hugh and he joins the team in 2012 or 2013, and an interim HC is named, who will the assistants be? That will be an important piece of the puzzle, too.

Am I the only one who thinks that an interim coach is an awful idea? The idea of an interim coach gives off the feeling of instability. How would the interim coach feel...almost like he's walking the plank of possible unemployment/demotion. If the new coach is Hugh (which I think is), he needs to cut ties with the NT and begin his era in Minnesota in full force right out of the gate. Would the interim coach be forced to implement Hugh's training and recruiting principles since it would technically be his program? Too much instability in my opinion for a program that SHOULD compete for the Big 10 title next season. If Hugh doesn't want/can't leave the NT now, then cut ties and hire someone longterm. Call Carlston, revisit Christy, give Scotty the keys, heck give Brady a chance...just hire stability for the sake of the program. This could ultimately prove to be the ADs most important hire (aside from extending J Robinson's contract). Whew...I'm exhausted

Why would anyone want to take that interim job and why would a prospective recruit want to come play in that situation? I mean - walking in as a lame duck from day one? That plan sounds like it has alot of potential downside to it. I suppose certain people would be ticked if he left the NT at this point, but really, so what? Its not like they don't have time to regroup and who wants to keep someone who's thoughts and commitment will be divided for the next two years. From his point of view - he may burn some bridges but I would think he has to consider this may be the last job he may have. The whole scenario doesn't seem to make much sense to me, from anybody's point of view. VBWarrior seems to be suggesting that hiring Karch for the interim may have enough of an attraction to keep the program successful.... But then why would KK want the job? I cannot imagine MN to be KK's dream job... Brady on the other hand, could take the job and if it did not turn out to be a more permanent position, he could most likely land another HC job easily...He is a great coach... Houses come and go, great job opportunities, not that often I don't think there is a chance in H**L KK would leave So Cal

While I'm not saying an interim coach is ideal, it can work if done properly. Again, look at USC when Jerritt manned the helm until Mick was done with the WNT. Jerritt brought in some top recruiting classes (who knew they'd be coached by the WNT coach during their careers there) and made it to a Final Four! Then, when Mick took over, he helped Jerritt get the Texas job (which was one of Mick's former places of employment) and that seems to be working out alright for Jerritt (and obviously for Mick at USC as well). Now I know it's hard to catch lightning in a bottle twice, but it can be done. To me, the 'long delay' (it's still January people) is a sign that the MN admin are trying to get it right, before they announce anything. I know it's hard to play the waiting game, but if it all comes together in the end, then wasn't it worth the wait!?
