Or how about T. Johnson @ G-tech?

I think Wiz should just come be the interim HC. She and Hugh can fly in and out of the TC's when they want to see each other and pad their frequent flyer miles to save for vacation time from the tundra. Grandma can watch the little one while Wiz recruits and turns our middles into machines during the Spring. Done. Let's go Maturi!

It is not Erik Sullivan apparently. It also may not be Hugh given this development.

Maybe it is going to be somebosy nobody on this thread has considered. The longer this plays out the more likely things are not going as planned.

It is not Erik Sullivan apparently. It also may not be Hugh given this development. Sullivan is a good assistant but this is a blip that effects the timeline not the eventual decision of who is going to be the next head coach. It is Hugh time in Minnesota.

Remember another time when the National Team coach was hired and an interim coach was in place? How about Mick Haley being hired at USC and Jerritt Elliott heading the team for a couple years? They reached the Semis when Mick joined them halfway through the season and Elite Eight in Haley's 1st full year. Then 2 consecutive national championships...I would say Jerritt may have had something to do with that success. So...interim coaches have worked well.

How many options does Minnesota have left? Who else would Hugh want to be the interim?

I always thought Madison, WI, was the most yuppie-liberal city in the Big10, but I guess U of MN is trying to give them a run for it. I thought up there we'd have a bunch of flag-lapel-pin-wearing patriotic Americans, but so far the two candidates who've gotten the most attention in this thread are a Russkie and a dude from some island on the upside-down part of the globe where their Air Force uses a bird that doesn't even really have wings as their mascot. If the Gelded Gophers had any love for their country, they wouldn't be so hell bent on disrupting the most promising USA WNT in a long long time!! Moo-oo-ooo-oo! Far In ! (out) More animal noises. Has anybody wondered why the conversation has turned sour? Think that future kids are not watching. The temporary coach deal is bogus. Who would want to play for that ..?? It is all about requiting. Say it in any animal noise U choose. Not some national coach who has the power to leave off someone for anything not team.. It is about getting players to come play for you of free will. Hire the proveN coach from Louisville..and be done. See who then jumps ship to come here.. The wasteland of the tundra.

What makes you think Leo would even come to Minnesota?

Two years goes fast. The knowledge that Hugh will be there is enough to recruit good talent. They don't have to have Hugh's ability to train, or even his vision . . they just need to manage the program, work hard and carry out his vision. IMO there are several people who are former head coaches or are now first assistant who could do this.

I am not the least bit surprised Sullivan walked away from the job at Minnesota. He wasn't guaranteed anything past 2012. I go back to my metaphor of walking a plank of possible demotion/unemployment in a short time period. I know coaching in college is a gamble for all of us and offers little to no security, but this would have been a certain gamble for Sullivan. Going to Texas was a great decision for Sullivan.
If Hugh is the man...why haven't they announced it? Doesn't it seem a bit weird that not very many (good) coaches are interested in being an interim coach? Does this not stike the MN athletic department as odd? Hugh would be a fantastic coach at MN and would position the program for success at a very high level, but the program needs stability soon. A lot of nervous athletes right now trying to figure out if they want to continue playing for a program that is uncertain.

Thecomparison with USC, Mick and Jerrit is not a really good one.
I believe that the time was a year with USC.
WNT was in a rebuilding situation when Mick took the job, this team is more settled.
Mick had turned much of the training to Toshi while Hugh is still doing a lot of the training himself with the NT.

If Hugh needs an interim coach, I would be happy to supply my resume.

Why are people counting 2 years? Even if Hugh stayed with the NT, wouldn't he be able to devote full-time to MN in the fall of 2012? Won't the games be over?
