And I'm sure you would feel the same way had the victim been someone you're close to. that is a terrible way to think of this situation. one shouldn't make decisions based upon a visceral reaction to something terrible happening to a loved one. if we'd done that, we would have nuked the entire middle east after 9/11. people handle situations better when they're divorced emotionally. the people saying "well if i were mcqueary/paterno i would've bashed his head in with a crowbar!" are meatheads who add nothing to the discussion. yes you can assume that sandusky very likely was not going to continue to sexually assault that boy during that weekend. that particular incident ended when he was seen by mcqueary. unless sandusky was a complete moron, chances were extremely high that he would lay low that weekend rather than risk being caught with another young boy. first of all, i doubt that paterno had a peaceful weekend of lawnmowing and bbq'ing considering that he was just told a longtime former co-worker was molesting a child in the football facility. second, sandusky was never going to be arrested that weekend. even if paterno had done what he was not supposed to do (go directly to the police), they would have needed time to interview mcqueary, interview sandusky and determine if the allegation was credible. you seem to be drawing no distinction between this situation and a car chase or a kidnapping.

Some filthy old fat man sodomized you? Deal with it. We've got a multi-million dollar football program to protect.
And, don't cry too much. We've got plenty of people who will take our side no matter what.

How in the world would you know this? A crime is a crime. sandusky was reported for inappropriate conduct in 2009 and the investigation culminated in an indictment two years later. tell me, what's more worth getting one's panties in a bunch, the fact that joe paterno didn't tell the next person on the chain of command immediately, or the state/local prosecutors took two years to get an indictment? also, please tell me how the outcome would have been any different if paterno had told curley and schultz immediately after being notified by mcqueary, rather than waiting a day or two. Your statement that I commented on was asinine. How do you know he wasn't actively molesting boys on the weekend? Regardless, everything comes home to roost sooner or later and all involved will be paying the piper. Good riddance.

Your statement that I commented on was asinine. How do you know he wasn't actively molesting boys on the weekend? because he was (allegedly) seen on the friday night molesting a boy. and again, even if paterno had turned around and told the police, do you think they immediately would have gone to sandusky's house and arrested him?

I used to think you had half a brain. Now I am sure of it. If Jo Pa, the man who allegedly was a great leader of young men, were to have gone to the police immediately this whole series of events would have unfolded much differently. An investigation would have ensued. More likely than not, the victim's identity would have been found out, and we wouldn't be having this discussion right now because Sandusky would be locked up in protective custody section in a Penn Dept of Corrections facility. But Joe chose a different path, as did a number of other adults within the PSU family. They circled the wagons and as a result, more likely than not Sandusky victimized who knows how many other children. We supposedly live in a civilized society where we care and protect the weakest of our members. Guess everyone didn't get that memo.

he wasn't expected to go to the police. familiarize yourself with state guidelines and how people in an organization are expected to behave. curley and schultz (who was in change of campus police oversight) received the information within 72 hours of the alleged crime. they swept it under the rug. is paterno going to walk into a police station and say "hey, this guy i coach with told me that some other guy was molesting a child in the locker room?" get real. if anything he could have encouraged mcqueary to speak directly to the police (well, the police other than schultz).
perhaps you have heard about the bill conlin abuse scandal? he was a sportswriter for some newspapers in philadelphia. numerous children reported sexual abuse to their parents. the parents all forbade conlin from further contact with their children (except for one woman who continued allowing her daughter to play with conlin's son, even after her son had been molested, thinking that conlin was only interested in young boys.) in none of these cases did parents call police. your assumption that almost everyone with any knowledge or suspicion of child sexual abuse will go to police is completely faulty. rather than looking down on everyone, maybe you should consider why this happens so that you can handle it differently should an incident happen in your own life.
