I think that the many student athletes participating in Men's Volleyball throughout the country should stand together, for once, and negotiate with the NCAA on how the Final Four is determined, including the number of teams. For example, in Men's Basketball, the tournament gets multiple teams from the "stronger" conferences and one team from the "weaker" ones. Shouldn't the NCAA consider this format for the Final Four? I think they should take the top 4 teams in the MPSF plus 2 from the MIVA and 2 from the EIVA and have an 8 team tournament. The MPSF should be rewarded, not punished, for having such a dominent conference in the country. Anyone care to add thier two cents???

I think more important than the Final Four is the Title 9 issue. If everyone should band together it should be to try and fix this because if that gets fixed, then there would be more teams and then would create a larger tournament.

I don't think that the present time is exactly one where the conferences or teams can demand anything. War, budget cutbacks and football are cutting into men's volleyball's pocket change right now and it would be easier to cut the programs than to upgrade them.
Maybe in a few years, until then, keep playing better and better volleyball and keep going to the matches and bring friends.

I completely agree with just going from 4 to 8 teams in the tourney. 4 from the West, 4 from the East. What's the damn big deal with that? At the end of it all, the right teams would be in the final 4, rather than this ding dong game they play now.

It can be done and it would proabably make more money. the SEC/NCAA loves money. Not sure now if the ticket take and TV money would cover the travel costs for the 8 teams. I could see 8 teams in three days as a format. What are the Title IX issues? I don't see any, just financial ones.

That format would be great! Continuing to move it around every year would be good too, but only to places where you would have good attendance.

the mpsf has teams from hawaii to utah, a stretch of about what - 4000 miles?
why not change men's volleyball into two separate conferences. the west and the east. teams west of the rockies compete in one conference (which is now the mpsf) and teams east of the rockies compete in another conference (which would be the teams in eiva and miva - are there teams between the rockies and the mississippi?)
then they could format it as coach mcguirk said: mpsf champ + 3 at large eiva/miva champ + 3 at large

That format would be terrific! Do you think that the other conferences would claim that it is unfair though?

Everyone agrees that the MPSF is the strongest conference. Everyone will also agee that men's college volleyball is loosing ground. If the MIVA and EIVA colleges never have a chance at the Final 4, the colleges could cut the program. To sum this up....we need the MIVA and the EIVA to be part of the Final 4 just to keep men's volleyball alive!!!

With the current set up, a strong team in the EIVA or MIVA has a better chance of reaching the final four than a similar caliber team from the MPSF. I know that was at least a consideration when my son was trying to decide where to go to school - if he went to one of the MIVA schools looking at him, he would likely make it to the final four at least once during his career. As it is, hopefully his MPSF team will make it, but it will be much harder.
