My picks: Coach of the Year (pick one) - Coach Dunphy (Pep). Player of the Year (pick one) - Keenan and Costas should be Co-Players of the Year...both are invaluable to their respective teams. Freshman (true or redshirt) of the Year (pick one) - Setter Tyler Hillderbrand (Beach) hands down. Biggest Disappointment: UCSD didn't beat Hawaii. Maybe next year! Highlight of the Season: Any team who beats BYU in Provo in front of those crazy Mormons. Also, anytime any team beats Hawaii in front of their coconut-throwing UH fans. Middles (pick 5): Keenan (Pep); Thomas (Hawaii); Rodgers (UOP); Gorney (BYU) and Chris Pena (UCLA) Outside Hitters (pick 8): Theoharidis (Hawaii), Rooney (Pep); Pelzel (UCI); Nargi (CSUN); Pael (BYU); Winters (Pep); Touzinsky (Beach) and Toppel (Stanford). Setters (pick 3): Tamas (Pacific), Moreno (BYU) and Mayer( Pep). Libero (pick 1): Coates (Pep).

Don't rule out Toppel. He was awesome at Longbeach this weekend, he went all out, 30 kills. I predict that he will pull Standford out of nowhere into the number 4 spot for the playoffs (if my math is right). Not bad for a guy who had to sit out the last 6 weeks or so with injuries. Really bad luck in his senior year. He deserves credit to come back this strong after the long break, that's pretty hard to do.

i don't think toppel can get all-mpsf/all-america honors. he hasn't played in enough games. there was a thread about this about 3 weeks ago?

Despite the fact that this is the best season in UOP's history, it doesn't have anything to do with Coach Wortmann's coaching skill. No offense to Mr. Wortmann because he is one of the nicest guys around and has a huge heart, but he isn't the best coach in the league for this season or any other season.
It's hard to choose a coach of the year because lots of times a team's success doesn't have anything to do with the coach. Especially when a team is usually mediocre and has an outstanding season one year. Guys like Dunphy are great coaches, and will always be good coaches, so if his team is at the top, he should unquestionably be the coach of the year.

Coach Joe Wortmann of UOP os MORE THAN DESERVING of the coach of the year award. I'm not sure if you saw this or not...but Joe Wortmann fired up his team AND the 5,500 Hawaiian fans in attendance by dancing to the beat of his OWN drum... ...he left the hawaiian warrior speechless, and almost JOBLESS! volleybows.tripod.com/2003/photos/wortdance.htmHe's a classy coach that has brought the UOP tigers up to a #4 ranking and the most wins in school history with 3 games to go. The "Man of Wort" is one of a kind... tigfan

I respect the fact that everyone is entitled to thier own opinion, so now I am going to share mine. Despite what some people think, Coach of the Year, IMO, is the Coach that gets the best out of their team for that one specific year. For Coach Wortmann to take a team that just a couple of years ago was starting freshman and getting hammered by EVERYONE to the #4 ranking this year and possibly hosting a first round match in the playoffs is more than deserving of this award. If your theory was true, then why doesn't Phil Jackson win the Coach of the Year award every year in the NBA, his team certainly wins the title. Maybe it is because he has the best players in league, with that kind of talent my mom could go in their and at least not screw it up.
Player of the Year: Costas, is their any question? Setters: Tamas, Moreno, and Hansen. Freshman: I'm going with Ahzena, yeah right, Hein from Pepperdine. Middles: Keenan, Rodgers, Bocage, Pena, Gorny OH's: Costas, Alleman, Rooney, Nargi, Pelzel, Paal, Zemit, Strickland Libero: Gawlik (Pacific)

Is it just me or is everyone blind? Brad Keenan player of the year? Granted his last few matches have been pretty good, but I'd say his overall play all year long has not even been close to POY status. Ronney caries Pepperdines team, so if you were going to pick someone from the Pepperdine squad to be POY there is no contest, Rooney all the way. The kid does everything, he passes nails for being 6'9 and he is hitting close to .400 on the season, and leading the team in k/g. Keenan doesn't play well when it counts, and thats all thats all that should count when it comes to POY.

Hey vbplayer,
As of April 5, Rooney's hitting % was .365 and Keenan's was .420. They are both awesome players! ;D

you cant compare an outsides hitting % and a middles hitting %, keenans should be much higher than rooneys, and look at how many more sets rooney gets than keenan, if keenan got that many his hitting % would be lower than rooneys. Yes, they are both great players, but I am standing by what I said before.
