Thanks "shelia". Much nicer to hear from you than read the nonsense from "xuscvbfan". I'm sorry we're not getting media up and posted quicker; its just hard to function the way we're used to here in China. Which i suppose is part of the point of being here... which part was nonsense? I said it is fun trip and everyone has a good time. Unlike the poster prior who mentioned not all have a positive trip!!!! I like Lexi Z, Kelly Murphy, and a few others so don't take this as no one decent is on the team. But it is more of a fun tour otherwise players would not have to pay for themselves and the school/coaches would pay for the training.... Again, it has been my player's experience that this is a fun trip....

They ended up putting last night's evening match online. July 6, Tianjin vs. USA All Stars: v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNDI0NDUxNTMy.htmlYou have to get through a ~20 second Pizza Hut commercial, and then it drops right into it. Loads pretty fast too...

I'm in the process of watching the "Development Team" play. First set was close, but the 2nd set was 25-9 in favor of the Tianjin team. They seem to be much better on defense and transition than the team from the US. The US team wasn't getting very good setting and virtually no offense out of the middle. I'm guessing it's mainly due to having very little practice time together before these matches. For Gopher fans, Dana Knutson is #13 I believe. She's not having a very good match so far in the first two sets. :-( Harms is number 6.
Just watched the 3rd set... pretty ugly. The serve receive for the USA was not good. The offense for the Chinese team was too fast for our middles. I thought Harms had a few nice kills.

7/7 Quick Update: BIP/USA Development Team just lost 0-3 to Shanghai: 13, 13, 16. The team had been improving on all fronts until today, and unfortunately took a big step backwards. I'll sit down with the coaches and craft updates for 7/6 (I guess I forgot yesterday) and today (7/7) tonight after the All-Star vs. Tianjin Match. Hopefully we finally have at least one winning set to talk about...

7/7/12 Match Update (Yes, I know we never got a 7/6/12 Update Posted; hopefully soon):
Team Shanghai vs. USA Development Team 3:0 (25:13 25:13 25:16)
Starters were Sherman, Harms, Norton, Mayfield, Rand, and Kurisch. I’m not sure what happened to the progress this team was making, but they came out seemingly unprepared and could not keep up with the serving and speed of the Shanghai team’s game until Set #3 when they started to find some success. Norton’s 15 kills, while the bright spot of the match, weren’t quite enough to overcome the 25 unforced team errors. Look for this group to bounce back and win some sets in Beijing. Bilger, Lamberti, Edwards, and Brown all saw action.
Team Tianjin vs. USA All Star Team 3:0 (25:10 25:21 25:18)
Starters were Johnson, Stalzer, Bartsch, MIddleborne, Bergsma and Krieg. We came out flat with one kill on our first 16 attempts. We were down 3-18 and 8-21 to finish 10-25. Ammerman came is strong off the bench and Fletmeier also saw action. Digging was actually OK, but we just couldn’t pass or get a kill. Reception improved to start Set #2 and we actually were within 2-3 points most of the set. Libero Mellinger had a strong set, but it wasn’t enough with us hitting .125 and losing 21-25. Bergsma started again in Set #3 and we got some momentum. We were tied at 15 but ended up at 17-20 and then losing 18-25 behind a .074 hitting clip in Set #3. Final stats had us hitting .083 as a team and passing a 1.87 on the match. Mellinger passed a 2.05.
Despite disheartening losses, these players are starting to understand the important differences in level by playing these top Chinese teams. This will help us prepare for the next round of this tour and aid in these players’ development and improved overall results. Bottom Line: Its important to note just how strong these 2 Chinese teams are.

They won't stream them, but both will eventually end up online. Evening matches on 7/10 and 7/11 should stream, and I'm working to have details. Great day visiting the Wall today, and then our opening banquet eating Peking Duck in Beijing was wonderful...

Great day visiting the Wall today, and then our opening banquet eating Peking Duck in Beijing was wonderful... What a fantastic trip for these young ladies. If it weren't for volleyball some of them would never get to experience what they are seeing this week. Keep the updates coming. Some of us are quietly following along with interest.

Yes! It is a fantastic trip for these young women especially for the younger players on the teams. They have an amazing opportunity to learn from some of the veterans who have international experience. If it wasn't for BIP it wouldn't happen. It is a privlage for these young ladies to b on these teams.

Just saw the 7/5 match between Tianjin vs USA All Stars. They just showed the second game. really kind of fun.
The broadcast was done completely solo by one guy, and maybe itis for that reason that there wasn't a whole lot of needless chatter. The guy didn't feel like he had to comment on every play or tell you whats going on. It is really very refreshing to see this. He also has a pretty good knowledge of the game, at times he would go into a short philosophical discussion about tactic and technique. really very nice to listen to.
He went into a short intro on how American volleyball is structured and talked about why the games might not be very close, this Tianjin team has been playing together for years and the USA team is an all star team that had never practiced together before. In fact he said the Tianjin coach tried to get some video on the USA teams but couldn't because none existed, they'd never played together before.
He kind of got on Bartsch's case for a backrow attack that was over the line, saying that she should have known where she was and known that she was over the line.
He was pretty kind about the free ball that got dropped in the back court when the Tianjin team made a couple of pretty impressive scoops to get the ball up and over.
Finally, he commented about the USA's individual defense and how poor it was since we were getting balls up but in unplayable positions. He said that the old timers in Chinese volleyball would find that unacceptable and would have had them do coach-on-one's until they were able to get the balls up correctly. He also described coach-on-one too, except in the mildest terms possible, cracked me up.
