I'm I reading this right that the coaches all chose Texas A&M, LSU, and Arkansas to finish above Kentucky?

Nope, I think the votes were split between East & West. KY got less points in the West because Tennessee took so many.

anyone know who will most likely be the starting setter for Florida? Brauneis in the 5-1 is what we'll start with but Mary sid briefly mention that the 6-2 is an option if the neeed is therere because the new sub rules and Backlund's jumping ability could let that happen. I suppose she'll talk it on Monday's hotline

Well, I went to the Florida scrimmage and the news is bleak. They didn't look good at all. Passing was atrocious -- so bad setting followed. Hitting was not crisp and lots of serves were missed. In the first set the freshmen were edging out the returnees until near the end when the older players got on a run and closed it out.
Then it got worse. Sophomore Noami Santos-Lamb, Florida's only experienced outside hitter, went down with what could be a serious injury in the second set. It looked to be her knee. She was screaming and crying.
The only real bright spot was a trio of freshmen -- Mallette, Backlund and Whaley. They've got a lot of potential. Backlund in particular had several nifty one-handed sets and blocks. Her overall setting was good given the crappy passing.
I hope for the best with Noami. You hate to see a serious injury at all, but especially in play that doesn't count for anything.

when was this? Hope Naomi recovers good. The passing is a concern but we will see how next week goes.

You hate to see a serious injury at all, but especially in play that doesn't count for anything. I was there too. Heard the scream, but didn't really see the leg injury. I can't blame it on playing in a scrimmage. If they didn't have a public scrimmage, they would've been practicing anyways. Things happen. Tennessee lost Jetwr last year to a knee and they ended up OK with some young players. I have faith we can do the same.

They needed to play in an environment with some sort of crowd and match like atmosphere to prepare them for their match next week anyway. Just hope it's not to serious, did she get up and limp off under her own power or did she need help?

Staff members started carrying her off but then they let her down and she walked off leaning on them, but not putting any weight on the injured leg.

Sorry for the bad news out of Gainesville. I hope the injury isn't serious. I think Tennessee was probably the favorite even before this, which is just strange to consider despite the success they have had there. It is just hard to stay on top forever.

It's a good thing the SEC is getting stronger. Good for better runs into the NCAA tourney at some point.
