Berg is not good. I watched this match with some college players who asked me why our setter was fat and out of shape! That was their first impression! She made so many serving, location, and defensive errors, I couldn't defend her. Even her demeanor was poor when her hitters needed it most. I honestly wouldn't have her set a NCAA top 15 Team! I am sure Karch is on the phone right now calling these college players of yours up to the USA National team to replace a woman with more championships and accolades at a higher level than any of your group have even gotten close enough to be timeout floor-wipers.

He's trolling.
And succeeded. I know I'm pissed off.

If I am Karch I might look at taking a break from the rigors of the national team. He has a family and probably hasn't been around much in the last few years. He now has the knowledge to run a collegiate program and will do fine in the recruiting area if you've ever had the chance to talk to him. What I hope for USA is they don't hire a coach that is going to change all the systems that Hugh put in place. Hugh is Hugh whether you like him or not...believe in his system or not...but the fact is his training methods developed the deepest USA gym ever. If you know anything about volleyball and have had a chance to see them practice in the last 3-4 months, you would realize that there is a great pool of young players to build on. Whoever the next coach is needs to get kids like Bailey Webster and Ariel Scott (Will be tough because Russ doesn't let them play for USA until they are done) into the USA gym early in the next quad. Look at the development Hooker made in 2 years. Had the USA not had her in this quad they would not have even been in the medal round. I think Larson is the next Logan and Hodge has a good future once she gets more passing reps. The biggest questions are setter and libero. Can Courtney and Miyashiro be those players?? Maybe. Do we need a big setter? NO!!! There are so many other characteristics of a world class setter before height is considered.

It is definitely a long way down the road, so we don't know what will happen, but I think the US might now be heading into a bit of a down cycle. I am trying to come up with players in college now who exhibit the kind of dominance that many of the players on the current roster did when they were in college, and I can't think of too many. I hope that some will develop, as certainly could be the case. There are a lot of good players out there, but to win at this level, what I have learned is that you have to be exceptional. Certainly there are some very good young players on the roster this year, but they will have some key spots to fill with the players who will be leaving the program now. Also, as the college game seems to place less emphasis on all around play, I have to wonder if that will hurt the development of players for the national team.

I thought Courtney had the best game of any of the US players today. The ironic smiley face in your post didn't come through. Actually, I was waiting for someone to say "But she didn't play".

"I watched this match with some college players who asked me why our setter was fat and out of shape!"
Sad to say, I have to call Poe's Law here, because I know some kids who would probably be dumb enough to do that.

Scott possibly , Webster no way, she has no ball control. If I am Karch I might look at taking a break from the rigors of the national team. USA has the setter for the next two Olympics!! Her name is Carli Lloyd. Having watched her (and the other NT setters) for the last season (not talking 1-2 games), I still have a hard time with her not being in London. She could have been the one to make a difference... The US needs an elite libero and someone to do what Logan does in backcourt! They're quite deep in other positions...

With a Silver in our pocket and not Gold - Will this effect Hugh at MN? OK he did guide this team to #1 in the world but anymore it is based on your last outing.

I think libero will be fine. Tama, and Kayla are both gaining experience on the NT and pro seasons. We have Glass and Lloyd at setter so again we are OK.

The ironic smiley face in your post didn't come through. Actually, I was waiting for someone to say "But she didn't play". Can't blame it on the double-sub. In the first set, we were too hot to use it. In the other sets, we were... I'm assuming we didn't have the option of subbing Miyashiro for Davis, without faking an injury, because she wasn't listed as a libero on the roster.

Since the beginning I feel like Nicole Fawcett has been wasted on the team. If Logan Tom is not coming back and Jordan Larson is planning on taking a break, then it is time for Nicole to step up. She can be turned into a really good OH. She is tall, strong, has a good serve, she just needs to learn how to pass well. Davis must be kept miles away from the team. Glass and Lloyd are the future of the team at the setter position. Russell Rose should be the next coach.
