Must be one of the greatest coaching adjustments that completely turned things around. I thought Brazil was going to sweep. I'm sure so did the Brazilian coach and players. They looked stunned!!! Makes my Sunday! ;D

Reach, the difference was the Brazilian men were playing well and didn't make silly unforced errors. They fought hard and didn't give the match away.
It was the Russians who stepped it up a couple of notches and won the match! You could see that they truly believed they could win the Gold Medal even after being down 2 sets.
That was the big difference!

I applaud Aleckno for the line-up change, but more out of desperation than genius. One thing's for sure, Muserskiy is going to be the RS for Russia for a long time !

One thing I really admire about the Russians on both the women's side is that they aren't as narrowly set into diving outside hitters and opposites as other nations are. Mikhaylov has seen time passing from the OPP position and is comfortable hitting from the 4 position. Muserskiy has played OPP for his club team. Ilinkyh, is a backup OPP but receives and plays position 4. The women's team have a history of the same with Goncharova, Gamova, Kosheleva, and Solokova.

Didn't she start as a Middle for the national team?

I didn't see the beginning of the match. Was Mikhalov put in the outside because the other Russian outsides sucked? Why was that decision made?

I didn't see any of the match, but this isn't a new move for the Russian coach, Mikhailov has played plenty of outside for Kazan. Muserkiy has a great all around skill set, might be the best all around middle in the world, not surprised they went to him, although I certainly wouldn't have guessed it. And yes, the Russian outsides suck, they are not on the level of the middles/Mikhailov/Obmochaev.

Not being on his level is not the equivalent of sucking. Khtei is terribly inconsistent as an attacker and as a big man his passing isn't top tier. Khtei had a big part in their World League win over Brazil a few years back and would start for most teams in the world. I am surprised that Alekhno didnt give Berezkho more consistent full-time play during the tournament considering their club history and Berezkho's performance all year.

Of course they don't actually suck. But they aren't on the level of the Russian opposites and middles, and when you have guys with that kind of versatility then I think it's a great move.

And, if you are struggling passing and have to set high balls the entire time without running the middle....having Mikhaylov AND Muserskiy as outlets is pretty impressive.
Muserskiy was picking up some balls on defense...not a lot, but, enough to avoid being a target.
Tetyukhin had a nice match, as well....any body know where the stats are located?

Big boy hand passed some free balls too. Very impressive athleticism. Sent from my iPad using ProBoards app

What a great match. Big guy needs to work on his serving, but what an offensive performance. I heard he had 14 kills in the 3rd set alone.
Can someone tell me what an error is on a dig?
