I agree. Gotta see these guys and teams all together before assumptions can be made.
Injuries, chemistry, and just flat bringin it to the table.
Should be an interesting year.

Since there are so few Division 1 men's programs left I think a fab 50 is overkill. There are so many players who are undecided. In the women's game there are so many schools that they are lucky to get a fab 50. For the guys even if you are a Fab 50 you probably aren't getting a scholarship. To keep group of players elite I think you need to change the boys from Fab 50 to Fab 25.

What do you mean left?
Where there more back in '85 when I played. I don't think so. Sure SDSU dropped but in actuality we have MORE DI programs than ever before. It is just that the women's game has been given way way more money over the course of the past 20 years.
The boys and men's game has increased but the women's game has expoded.
So you are recommending punishing the boy's because their is no money ....and they have to make sacrifices... and take out a crap more loans....and have to rely on creatinve way such as presidential scholarships and finacial aid to help make it even remotely possible to go to $30,000 schools.
What is embarressing is that some of these DI and DII coaches in the men's game also have to be assistants to the Womens programs. What a joke!
Shame on you! These boys work every bit as hard to get just the chance to get a call from a DI - DIII coach.
I would never begrudge the insane amount of money being throw at average to below average girls all over the nation.....but when you make comments like these I am tempted to think otherwise.
Foreign competition, few opportunities, and very very little money and yet these boys are still committed.
BOOOOO!

Once again, IT ISN'T A 50 BOY'S THAT'LL MAKE COLLEGE ALL AMERICANS list. It's an "attaboy" list for the top 50 high school players in the country. There are 50 deserving players in California alone, let alone the rest of the country.

Perhaps what USA FAN and I are saying (I'm only suggesting for USA FAN) is that perhaps the FAB 50 list loses some luster with their being so many "FAB" players ending up on so few D1 teams. You won't hear from me to stop supporting men's volleyball, but the Fab 50 doesn't have as much significance with so many "Fab" players on the teams.
If the list were cut down to 25 (as per USA FAN's suggestion), it would be a little more significant to tout to the incoming frosh that "we've got 3 Fab 25 players in this class, you'll be the fourth", whereas now, a Fab 50 recruit will hear that at any school that is recruiting him. It won't necesarily cut down the college programs, but it would add a level of eliteness to the men's program that doesn't seem to exist.
Hawai'i has 1 fab 50 player on its roster and is the defending National Champs, what does that say for the parity of talent in boy's volleyball and the transition to college?
I do not mean to attack the boy's side of the sport. Just offering an opinion. How many people are actually aware that boy's volleyball is a high school sport?
I suggest you start with participation rates and promoting it as "Not just a girl's game anymore" or something to make it a less "wussy" stature game. (I was addressed by an LA-area D1 football team guy that suggested only girls should play volleyball recently... that can't help the popularity of the sport for young high school boys!
