With at-larges, I would look at your bigger mid majors and see where they stand. Last year the MAC got 4 (probably because Central Mich won the tourney and screwed it up) but this year I don't see them getting more than 2. Big East I see 3, ACC 4 etc so that will leave more on the table and you will see the mediocre teams of the big conferences with +RPI's

Some of those "mediocre teams of the big conferences" are pretty good. If Oregon State can beat Penn State, they can't be as bad as they seem to be playing. Right?

We will have teams in the mid-50's RPI getting at large bids because of weak mid-major representation, and some "big names" being .500 or less

it warms my heart to see my Buckeyes in such a healthy position
I still don't think Michigan is any good... but the rankings are counter that

Not many, if any, mid-majors are in the hunt for at-larges this year. You are right though, that some of the teams currently listed will not make it due to not getting above .500.

if "major" conference teams are slow to develop team chemistry, they can overcome it, because their early season matches are often easier, and they can pick up some "big wins" in conference play.
However, if "mid-major" conference teams are slow to develop that team chemistry, and they happen to lose their early-season "big matches", they face a really tough situation.
Kinda sucks.

All of this flies in the face of traditional west coast outrage about the east coast mid-majors and a rigged rpi system. Seems like west coast bigtimers quit bitchin and finally got smart

Does the Great West not have an automatic bid yet?

Does the Great West not have an automatic bid yet? It only has 5 teams, so I really hope not?
