Michigan is on a roll! 5 straight wins- 12 straight sets! Including two wins over top 10 teams. The team chemistry is great right now. They seem to really enjoy each other on and off the court.
Michigan fans! Let me know your thoughts!
Great defense, great setting, great attack! They hit .460 against Minnesota and .450 against Iowa. They took Penn State to 5 sets just before the streak. Mark Rosen out-coached John Cook beating Nebraska in 5 after going down 2 sets to 0. This is not a fluke!
It should be fun to see how it all plays out the next 2 weeks and in to the tournament.
Go Blue!

Where did this team come from all of a sudden? Must have been one heck of a mid Big Ten schedule speech! (especially Molly Toon)

Where did this team come from all of a sudden? Must have been one heck of a mid Big Ten schedule speech! (especially Molly Toon) They were still trying to figure out a solid line-up at the beginning of the season. They found one and it's looking good. This is one of my favorite teams to watch. They run a very quick offense and are VERY well-coached. Not a lot of top recruits but they definitely make the most out of what they have. The Wisconsin match was interesting because on paper, and in spite of their injuries, Wisconsin should have won. Chapman was a top 10 recruit coming out of high school and Thomas was top 20. As a team, Wisconsin is much more athletic than Michigan yet Michigan whooped them. I'm excited to see what Michigan does next year. They only graduate one senior but bring in Abby Cole, who's the top middle in the class. Excited to see what she can do for them.

They are finishing very strong. Great job by them. Rosen vs Cook is not what's going on. Cook is one of the best by far.

Sat., Oct. 27 at Indiana * Bloomington, Ind. W, 3-0 Fri., Nov. 2 vs. No. 4 Nebraska * Cliff Keen Arena W, 3-2 Sat., Nov. 3 vs. Iowa * Cliff Keen Arena W, 3-0 Fri., Nov. 9 vs. Wisconsin * Cliff Keen Arena W, 3-0 Sat., Nov. 10 vs. No. 10 Minnesota * Cliff Keen Arena W, 3-0
Certainly they have been solid the last 5 matches and taken care of business at home.....where everyone wants to be this time of year.
They should beat a weaker Northwestern and messy Illinois team but I will hold and see where they stand when they travel to Michigan State and Ohio State. Those will be dogfights as nobody wants to go into the Tourney with a fresh L. Good Luck Blue
Fri., Nov. 16 at Northwestern * Evanston, Ill. 7:00 p.m. CT Sat., Nov. 17 at Illinois * Champaign, Ill. 7:00 p.m. CT Wed., Nov. 21 at Michigan State * East Lansing, Mich. 6:30 p.m. ET Fri., Nov. 23 at Ohio State * Columbus, Ohio 7:00 p.m. ET

They should be really good next year, as they lose only 1 senior I think. Beyond that, I don't know - they seem to have a LOT of freshman and juniors (but not many sophomores). So, the end of 2013 will present them with losing a number of players, but also having a lot of players who have been around for a while.

Michigan's next challenge is to prove it can win a significant conference game on the road. Its 2 conference road wins were against Indiana and Iowa, teams they should have beaten. It will be fun to see if their new-found confidence, line-up, and playing style will translate into some road wins in the last 4 conference games.

Great school, great coaches, and they have a pretty substantial history of success. 3 Sweet 16s and an an Elite 8 in the past 6 years. I browsed their season records and tournament results over recent years. This trend seems to be nothing new for MI, where they start slow, have a merely okay Big 10 season, but continually improve over the season and have a good tournament. One of the years they made the Sweet 16, they had finished 8th in the conference, and during all of their 16s and Elite 8 seasons, they never finished higher than tied for 4th, and never had anything less than 8!! losses in conference. That really suggests great coaching - continual improvement and peaking at tournament time.

I don't know anything about the recruiting side of things, but Coach Rosen has often said in interviews that his coaching staff focuses on "the process" - i.e., the process of continual improvement getting to the end of the season being as good as possible. One of his most interesting post-game comments was about having to be honest about how the team played, win or lose, especially about being honest when the team won but might not have played well. Again, this is focusing on the process as much as or even more than the result. It looks like this approach has worked well with a very young team having 6 freshmen this year.

This team deserves to be ranked IMO! They've beaten #4 Nebraska and #10 Minnesota recently, are on a 5 match win streak, beaten Arkansas and UNI in pre-season, and oh yeah.. they play in the big ten.

Michigan is a scary team to face in the NCAA right now! Great job by the staff at finding the right mix of starters and really getting it going this season!

All of a sudden a love-fest for Michigan VB. this is a solid team playing well, however - I believe Michigan State deserves a loftier ranking.
