When I was growing up we rode our bikes around the neighborhood and in the woods for hours. It was much more carefree. I always felt safe at school or anywhere that I went. Society changed very much when I became a parent. When my daughter entered HS it seemed that every few months the school would be in lock down due to bomb threats. There is something very wrong in our country/world today.

There is something very wrong in our country/world today. indeed, there is. no sermons, no long explanations, just the truth: this has spiritual dimensions and implications. but enough of that for now. all we can do at this time is pray for the survivors', families', and community's healing. so we do that. as for me personally? i've had it. had it. ENOUGH WITH THE GUNS. don't care about what history tells us about what happens when govts disarm the populace. don't care about the fact -- and it is a fact -- that some criminals will always have guns despite the illegality of it. don't care. we are sick. and sick people shouldn't be armed. ENOUGH WITH THE DAMN GUNS...

ENOUGH WITH THE DAMN GUNS... Getting rid of guns will not stop people from killing people. I'm not sure what the solution is but I do know that life growing up today is much different than when I grew up in the 70's and 80's. We didn't have computers, iPhones, violent video games that are purchased for children today as gifts from their parents. I had a stay at home mother who had dinner on the table every single night and we sat down as a family. McDonalds was a once a year treat. Our society is so wrapped up with obtaining material things that for the most part...children are not being raised by their parents. They sit in front of a TV and watch violence on TV and play violent video games. The reality here is lacking and they live in a fantasy land. Why should I as a law abiding citizen have to give up my right to protect myself from some drug addict or crazy person that wants to break into my home or hijack my car? If you want to ban guns then we should look at banning knives, hammers, ice picks, axes, and even cars. All of these have been used to murder people.

ENOUGH WITH THE DAMN GUNS... +1 I'm sick of guns too... I'm making no political statement here... I'm sick and f'ing tired of thousands of innocent people getting murdered by guns every year.... Something has to be done... Best post ever cvvcdad.

A defining moment. The parents were all gathered at a fire station next to the school. The govenor was there and they were reuniting the children with their parents. At some point he had to stand up and said, (paraphase) If you have not been reunited with your child, you won't be. Can you imagine having to tell a whole group of parents that?

No. As a parent I cannot even imagine.

I am not saying this is right or wrong but a friend of mine thinks that part of the problem could be the very violent video games that kids play with.

Over 100 rounds were fired. 100. From an assault rifle?
