I enjoyed this movie a ton. Also watch Once Upon a Time In Holleywood for the 3rd time. IMO this is Tarantino's best I haven't seen the film but I know the history of the Manson "family" during that time period from reading Vincent Bugliosi's Helter Skelter (which I read in my teens and really loved it). For some reason, I really enjoyed this street tour of the crime spree. It's not sensationalist. It's a no-frills "here's where this happened" street tour. Watched the whole thing. LOL! Ok....just keep in mind the title of the movie. I'll leave it at that. Every scene is unique and precise and the surrounding attention to detail is profoundly well done.

1917
Wow! What a great film! A series of long tracking shots over a variety of terrain and environments -- trenches, No Man's Land, indoor, open land, river, through a town. This film has nothing but long tracking shots. Beautifully shot. Simple story. Great action sequences.
It was nominated for Best Picture this past year. Parasite won. I have not seen Parasite, but it better be one frikkin' incredible film because 1917 was frikkin' incredible.

Haven't seen it yet, but I was hoping to see it right after I saw They Shall Not Grow Old. Then you-know-what hit.

I'm a sucker for technique in film -- tracking shots, camera angles, the movements of cameras, shadows, lighting, the use of color, dialogue, the right mood music, choreography (not just dance), etc.

Watched Phantom Thread the other night. It wasn't what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be more of a mystery movie with DDL hiding notes in everybody's coat pockets and what not. Turns out, it's just an effed up love story, where DDL only loves his wife when she poisons him. Haha. It was good though. Excellent cinematography and score. Will watch anything PTA. Oh, and I loved Lesley Manville.

Anyone seen Onward yet? I thought it was cute and really enjoyed it. To be frank, I thought it was a little formulaic, but what the hey, it's a kids movie! Gotta suspend that disbelief of mine and just enjoy the dang show!

I think The Favourite shall be next on my list. I liked it. Saw it twice. Dark comedy. Sometimes silly. The director and some of the key cast members were also together in another strange movie, The Lobster.

So I ended up watching Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri because The Favourite wasn’t available to rent on YouTube. Good movie. Interesting character development with Sam Rockwell’s character. Very dislikable character, but had some redeeming moments toward the end. For most of the film, I was sympathetic to Mildred’s story, but the dialogue in the very last scene changed my view of her. I came to think that Mildred just had a taste for trouble and/or violence. Kind of disappointing, really.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (watched on Netflix, available elsewhere also): Enjoyed this film a lot. Very moving story, feel-good ending, and several fascinating and appealing characters. Probably helped that I liked Lily James in Yesterday--she plays the central character in this film.

Finally watching The Kite Runner. Good movie, but wish I'd known more about the story before I had my 7.5yo watch it. We had to do some fast-forwarding.

If it's any consolation, I watched Bonnie and Clyde, The Godfather, Deliverance, and The Exorcist before I was age 10. Look how great I turned out.
