Didn't see the movie, but I did see the play. Pretty much every character in the story has multiple bad things happen to them, so if you hate one of the actresses (or all of the actresses) you get to see their characters get emotionally destroyed. i tried watching this, and fell asleep halfway through. i guess there's a good story in there somewhere. everyone just seemed like they were over-acting. i liked the actors in it, but it was their characters that were just so unlikeable. i was bored. maybe it's better as a play. :-/ The play worked very well as a play. Theater is done in the context of a live audience, with the actors and the audience always aware that the actors are playing to the audience. Movies usually are staged and acted as if the audience does not exist and the camera is just happening to magically capture real life, and this makes a big difference. In theater, the actors play to the audience. In movies, they play to each other for the benefit of the audience. That's why plays often don't make great movies and vice versa. In August Osage County, you see a whole bunch of very flawed and unsympathetic characters orbiting around their deeply flawed and unsympathetic parents. Scene after scene reveals more and more of the hidden backstory and the traits of the characters until everything results in a series of explosive events and revelations that finally blow apart this very dysfunctional family. It's a classic play structure, precisely because the theater never pretends it is anything other than artificial. Tarantino movies are plays. Some classic Westerns are plays. But most movies are not plays.

I saw Inside Llewyn Davis. I was surprised it was a Coen Brothers movie because it didn't look and feel like a Coen Bros movie. It takes place in folk music's transition period of 1961 -- between the glory days of Pete Seeger folk music and Bob Dylan of the mid- to late-1960s. I was mostly bored throughout but by the end, I found myself sympathizing and rooting for that dumb f**k Llewyn Davis. I felt some emotion. So, overall, boring movie, but I felt something which movies rarely make me do. But still...kinda boring.
Stupid cat.
I can see how folk music might be fun to play (with a guitar), but I don't think it's all that pleasant to listen to. It's like soccer. I hate watching soccer on TV or in real life, but boy oh boy, is it a blast to run around and kick those balls!

Malefacent was great! Angelina Jole beautiful even with horns coming out of her head. Pretty scary for little kids.

The Fault in Our Stars is very good. Very good, very sad. Just my cup of tea.
(Yes, I like movies made for teenage girls.)

Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Biggest pile of poo I've ever witnessed. Okay, a bit of hyperbole, but that was what I was thinking while watching it.

It's good. I like Woodley a lot.
Not a fan of Tom, but I hear his movie is good, too.

Edge of Tomorrow - Groundhog Day on steroids. I'm kinda over Tom Cruise, but he was really good. I went because it's Father's Day weekend and this was my husband's choice. Really did enjoy it. Pleasant surprise.

Tried to watch the movie Her. Couldn't do it. For some reason I just couldn't get into it. It seemed extremely awkward to me and even uncomfortable. Am I the only one? I really had high hopes, maybe I need to watch it another day.

I thought it was very good. I'm sure it isn't everyone's cup of tea, however.
Much better movie than 12 Years ...
