^Long Beach should have at least 4 more wins. They were in matches in the pre-season that they should have won, and couldn't finish.

Didn't they also beat Illinois at one point too?

In any sport there is no "should of" UCSB lost 3 matches all by 3 to 2. A lost is a lost, a win is a win. And 3 good teams tied for #1, would like to see the 3 of them in the final 4.

UCSB is the Champion of the Big West! Just that simple. Go Gauchos!!! They are Tri-Champions, not the sole Champion. They did however win the AQ from the conference. But they won't be the only ones receiving a Championship trophy!

Rankings after final week of conference. Santa Barbara & Northridge did what they needed to do - if not instilling a ton of confidence in how they did it. Now Northridge prays to the volleyball gods - coudl the Big West get some RPI retribution this year. I still think it's about 75-25 they get in. Assuming they do, I have SB going to Stanford, North going to USC, & Hawaii getting Cal & BYU to the islands. #1) Hawaii, co-champs after all, thanks to LB. #2) Santa Barbara, cut it a little close in the end. Now they are playing with house money in the tourny. #3) Northridge, would be a shame if Gedryn doesn't get to the tournament - they have a good enough team and Gedryn creates some match-up issues for opponents. #4) Long Beach - swept SB & beat Illinois. 3 highlights can't erase a bunch of come from ahead losses and the horrible losses to Air Force and sweep @ Poly that really stunk. #5) Davis (finish on a losing streak, but the #5-#8 teams in the end weren't a lot different other than Davis had the 2 huge upsets of Cal & Haw) #6) Full #6) Poly (nice comeback against Irvine, Keddy not even on the sidelines to finish the season, Crosson still in rebuilding mode going into 3 year - still looks rough for next year) #6) Irvine, (where in hades is the program at?? - some young players, but the early seasonn RPI inflation masked a mediocre talented team) #9) Riverside POY: Hartong: COY: Welch: FOY: Spindt: Taylor a close 2nd 1st Team: Hartong Uiata Gedryn Hinger Taylor Okpala Spindt Thompson Sulley Lee Mackie Read more: volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/49898/official-2013-big-west-thread?page=22#page=18#ixzz2mFEm0W4s

Hope UCSB plays at Stanford - there's a number of NorCal families on the Big West Championship Team. Ole ole ole!
Props to UCSB for best use of social media with numerous Twitter feeds, Instagram posts, and Facebook pages and updates. Why not celebrate - the UCSB volleyball community is so happy to succeed with Nicole at the helm. I hope Nicole is recognized as Coach of the Year for her quiet determination and firm leadership. A welcome 180 degree change for the UCSB volleyball program!
