Heard from a player there that Sam is leaving in January. More to do with his personal life and new wife than any issue at LSU. That's from a player currently there. Sam wishes the team and especially the players at LSU the best, he does still have a strong emotional bond with them. So does this mean he is out for the 2014 season, or will be leaving in January? I feel like him leaving now hurts the team more than it does him...

If he is leaving early there will be two d1 programs trying out the experiment of going with one assistant when budgeted for two. Northern Colorado being the other one.
It'll be interesting to see the results for both squads.

I think there might be three - Winthrop. Last I heard they had one assistant. Well, they had two again...but the new assistant coach left after being there for a week. Anyone know what's going on with all of the assistants there bolting after five minutes? How many is this now that have been at Winthrop under the current head coach? And why are they all leaving? Is he breaking rules, is he pushing too hard (or not hard enough), is it just plain bad luck?

Full time DIII combined position: ncaamarket.ncaa.org/jobs/6400483/head-volleyball-coachSouthern Vermont College, an NCAA Division III institution, is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic Men’s and Women’s Head Volleyball Coach for a full-time, 10-month position (August – May), reporting to the Director of Athletics. The head coach has the responsibility of overseeing all the tasks and initiatives associated with the Men’s and Women’s Volleyball programs. Does anyone have any info on this school & program? why is this position open so late? revolving door??

Only about four buildings, one of them a high-school-ish gym. Bennington is a cute town, about an hour and a half to Albany. Big thing to remember is this: Vermont is the only state in the country with no high school volleyball. You aren't getting local recruits. Two coaches ago, they had a guy who wanted to make it work, and he did. On the women's side, he brought in an ENTIRE TEAM of California juco transfers. A couple of them could play. I suspected those girls weren't paying a lot to go to college, but thats only because I'm bitter and old. He left for a better job, kind of late in the cycle last year, was replaced by ? who didn't make it work, and here they go again.

Still have an opening for a part-time assistant coach at SUNY Oswego (NY). Will have the option to pay the full stipend in the Fall. Contact JJ O'Connell at Jefferson.OConnell@oswego.edu with interest.

Mississippi and Maine have some volleyball, though it isn't played as widely or with the same seriousness (if that is the right word) as the other states. If I recall Mississippi's state championship is Columbus Day, the earliest in the nation. Vermont actually had no statewide structure for high school volleyball, but there were 4-5 schools playing. The Vermont Principals Association granted exhibition status in 2013 and they will apply to become a high school sport after this season. They claim they will be the 50th state to sponsor volleyball. Last fall they had 9 teams. www.vpaonline.org/Page/173

I wouldn't put Maine and Mississippi on the same level. Back to the Southern Vermont opening, probably not someone's dream job but a good opportunity for SOMEONE out there...I think they still won their conference last year with a new coach but they weren't regionally ranked like they had been under the previous coach. Could be a good place to get some wins on your resume.

My 2 cents on southern vermont. Was in top 3...on campus interview years back...lost out to a guy from florida. Nice small town...has potential. Not sure they know how to hire a coach that can build a program with staying power. Conference isn't the strongest. If they got the right sales oriented coach that could sell the school...they could be successful.

Western State Colorado University's assistant position is closed. We selected Colton Reinholtz from Hofstra and Utah State. Thanks to all who applied. It was a crazy process that took a lot longer than we had hoped.

I know it is late but this position just opened up. We did not think we would be able to fill it due to a hiring freeze at the University. 2nd assistant position. Pay is only 17K but it does come with benefits. You must apply online to be considered and we hope to move very quickly. jobs.ysu.edu/postings/464.
