Practice is going to be a battle-royal. Only one player, Vansant is assured of her position. Every other position is wide open. Thankfully, that is not due to a lack of talent.

The Washington players will be holding an intrasquad sand scrimmage on Sat April 5 at Golden Gardens. Sun April 6 is also reserved "in case the weather does not cooperate" on April 5.

Do Washington fans think Jim will run a 6-2 or a 5-1. I dont know too much about the red shirts and players coming in to know what the best option is.

I bet he doesn't know for sure, so I'm not convinced any speculation from us is of any value. That being said, while he said last year that he was hoping to run a 5-1 if one of the setters sufficiently differentiated herself, I think the rules as they exist now favor a 6-2. And he'll have lots of hitters to use, so that also favors a 6-2.

Correct me if im wrong, (I probably am, and I apologize If I am) but this past season, both setters were subbed on when they went in the front row right?

Both of their current returning setters are setters, not hitters. There has been some speculation about redshirted Bailey Tanner concerning whether she will be a setter, a hitter, or a setter/hitter.

Most speculation has been about Tanner playing as an OPP/S, with Beals setting when Tanner is in the frontrow. I think that is just as, if not a bit more, likely than any alternatives. The advantage is you save two subs every six rotations, allowing more freedom to sub elsewhere. For instance, Nelson could move to OH2 and be subbed for in the backrow by a better passer. Or they could play three middles...

Cold and windy. Cassie & Kaleigh won both of their matches pretty easily. Krista & Kim seemed to pair up well. They all seemd to have a good time out there. There is a brief write up about it on the GoHuskies Sand page.

Word on the street is Jade Finau can hit. Though since this will be her first experience with UW, we'll have to see. Katy Beals is not too bad, no?

Is UW truly trying to get a sand program started or are they using this program as cover to get extra time for their indoor program? Have they been practicing 20 hrs per week? If so, does a one day exhibition justify that amount of practice? Just wondering.

Interesting set of teams. It's almost the same teams as the annual "Northwest Challenge" (UW, Portland St., Boise St., Gonzaga). The only difference is Oregon substituting for Gonzaga.
Did the long relationship built up as part of the "Northwest Challenge" have something to do with setting up this event? Or maybe are these just the only sand teams in the area?

First year, I believe, for all four teams. Probably more even competition that against more established teams. Many of UW's players have never played sand before.
