I will never count out a Shoji coached team, but there are sure a lot of question marks on this team. At this point, I could see them leaving the islands for the NCAA tournament and not having much of a qualm with the committee as a result for once. They really need Taylor to make the next step and become a go to terminator (not easy given that they also have to replace their setter and a lot of their passing). It is also not an ideal situation for an inexperienced middle to step into. All of them, even ones who become great players, tend to have some growing pains early on.

I thought Manu-Olevau was out on her mission. I guess we'll find out when they start practice.

With the season coming up, my predictions for the starting line is........ OH1: Taylor OH2: Olevao (Long coming in for backrow) OPP: Passi MB1: Adolpho MB2: Magill L: Mendoza S: Higgins DS: Kahakai or Long. Possible redshirts: guisanno, Anderson, huff. Your lineup makes sense. I can see Greeley getting into the action early on. Might even edge out Olevao or Passi. I still see Long play more back row than front, which could mean both Guinasso and Anderson will redshirt. One of Maglio and Huff is also a redshirt possibility.

I guess we'll find out when they start practice. she's on the 2014 roster. I saw that too. For the young people going on their mission, is it at a certain time of the year? I guess this question is for anyone who is LDS.

I can see Huff redshirting, since she is very, very raw when it comes to volleyball. Chose Hawaii cause she wanted to learn, and improve, her volleyball skills. She is an excellent basketball player, played the sport most of her life.

Can huff play volleyball and walk on basketball or does she have to be on basketball Schollie to play both? If she is a scholarship athlete, she would have to be on a Basketball scholie to play both.

If Long does comes in for someone in the backrow, I hope she can serve the ball into play and not serve it out or into the net which she was doing a lot of last season.

I think one of her sons just started doing the mission or just finished it. Can't remember which it was. There's no specific time of the year she needs to start or end. As long as she's 19 years old, and lives the standards of the church, she can serve a mission for 18 months.

Shoji has been using her in that role regardless of her mistakes. I really don't see that changing. Unless Ponce or one of the new DS turn out to be super servers or fantastic passers/defenders. He thinks she's not good enough to play front row so he's trying to use her in some way.

Passi, Greeley and Maglio are the players that I am most anxious to see.

Newcomers Greeley and Passi performances will be key up front. Someone needs to step up and help take the pressure off Taylor. Shoji has only 5 outside hitters for 3 positions and the choices are pretty thin on who will be on the court. Olevao needs to improve her hitting pct .050 more on the LS or maybe be a better fit on the RS. Long a RS was a non factor and I don't see that changing.

Taylor Higgins #7 far left orchestrating the cheering during the Cal Poly match, with Nikki Taylor #8 far right leading the vocal cheering.
