Steve Lowe into Wisco Hall of Fame. His story is simultaneously sad, and inspirational. www.uwbadgers.com/genrel/090214aaa.htmlI became a fan when in Madison in '95, so missed him. But everyone I knew talked about him with real heartfelt respect, and a bit of sadness. One thing I wonder, will 10,000 ever get into the field house again to see the badgers play? I was at the win over Penn State in 97, and that place was electric even though there were only 5-6k in there. Everything you heard about him was true, he was a friend, and a great person.

Yes, I am still bitter. 3-2 PSU, 15-13 in the 5th. Right now I don't believe they can use the upper, but I bet you could get 6,000 in the lower, although some people would have a pretty good view of the support beams. Sheffield said that when it is apparent that regular use of the upper deck will be required, he will push to get it renovated. One cynical side of me wonders, that despite the additional 750 season tickets (a 75% increase) how many butts will actually be in the seats. Is it just the hip/bandwagon thing to do now that they are winning, and the tickets are cheap? How many of those 750 went on a regular basis, or is it just BB and FB fans picking up the cheap season tickets for some more points? I try to give away, yes give away my 1-2 match tickets (from matches I can't attend) per year to my officemates and I can't get anyone to go, in part usually because they are already tied up with hockey.

I was chatting with Diane Nordstrom, who told me that they cannot use the upper deck currently because the railings aren't high enough given how steep the incline is. Someone could stumble on a top stair and theoretically tumble over edge because the railing isn't tall enough to catch them completely. There are added complications with updates to it because the Field House is a registered historical landmark of some kind, so there are rules stating that if they were to make a major update (putting in AC, for example), they'd have to go bring everything else in the building up to code. I remember reading that Kelly was asked when he came to Madison if he wanted them to prioritize re-opening the upper deck, and he said something to the effect of "make us earn it [with ticket sales]". Even without the upper deck, I think we can still cram 6-7k in there. I'm with Gobucky, though. Rainbowspouse and I have 2 extra season tix beyond our own to give us room to bring friends, and we have trouble finding friends to come. Giving away all 4 when we can't make a match is next to impossible.

It will be interesting to see if that all changes with the teams recent success. And this is such an easy bunch to love. Wonder if the Wednesday games will be easier to fill with less competition from football?
They are really making a push to fill seats. If I were there in Madison instead of NY, I would definitely buy season tickets.

Attendance may be up some, but the schedule is brutal for that. Too many Wednesday and Sunday matches, as well as Purdue on Black Friday.

I haven't seen enough and I'm curious how others feel Bates has performed beyond the thunderous kills. Blocking? Serve receive? Defense? Variety on offense? Is she ever utilized in the back row? thoughts?

Is she ever utilized in the back row? thoughts? My take: Blocking - Girl's got hops. I didn't really register this element, but her petite stature is not a problem here. Serve receive - She's gotten a lot better. CSU was targeting her pretty consistently. However, we haven't really gone up against any hard-serving teams yet. I'm going to reserve judgement on this until we get into conference play. Defense - Her digging/passing improved dramatically from week 1 to week 2. Variety on offense - She does need to learn to mix it up. I'm sure she came from school/club where she hit harder than anybody else, so she could just hit through the block. She's doing some of that here, but she also needs to work on tooling the block, and mixing things up - tips, rolls, etc. Those skills come with practice. I'm sure they're working on it. Is she ever utilized in the back row? - Yes. She played L2 the entire CSU match, all 6 rotations. I don't recall her having any back row attacks, but that doesn't mean she didn't. Thoughts - I'm impressed. There is a TON of upside there. She's rapidly evolving into an asset for this team.

So we need the FB team to collapse.

Be careful what you wish for. Wednesdays are a hard sell for adults who have other commitments.

Huh? Nobody wished for anything. It was just a general question, although I will answer badgerbreath's question:
Wednesday sucks for attendance, and always will!
P.S. Badgerbreath, are you going to Rutgers, or are you upstate (the real upstate, which is I-90 and above)

Too bad. We'll see I guess.
I'm on Long Island, but share a small apartment in Queens with my in-Laws. It's a couple hours from LI by car, or I can get the train there. So I was definitely planning on going to Rutgers, but it depends a bit on other obligations with T-day just following. Hopefully I don't have to travel. It's been so long since I've been anywhere near to where they play, I'm excited to finally have a chance. The only upside to this B1G expansion as far as I can see.
I don't know what kind of atmosphere Rutgers has for these things, but given it is the day before T-day and the team only won 5 matches last year, I'm guessing not much. I imagined myself being the lone creepy looking wacko in the bleachers of that old gym.

I wonder if the Nelsons will go. Still, it would be about 7 hours I am guessing. I know it's about 6 hours from PA border to some parts of NC, but also, Maryland does not play the Badgers in College Park, so they might as their only "reasonable" road trip in conference. Haleigh's sister looks quite like her so they'd be easy to spot.

The Nelsons and the Thomases flew out to Colorado to see this past weekend's tourney.

A survey of the twitterverse seems to suggest Teri Barr will be the Bonnie Oleson for the upcoming weekend.
I last saw her at Badger WBB last winter and aside from her voice, unrecognizable from her TV news days.
