On the edge of my seating waiting on the UW AA selections! Literally.

I'm dialing down my expectations and interest, as I don't want to be outraged.

LC is not going to Anaheim over break. She will take her first extended break from playing to heal up her ankle and her foot (plantar fasciitis).

Thanks for that. It only makes sense. Planters foot only heals with rest and can persist for a long time if exacerbated frequently, which it is easy to do. I've known a couple runners who lost a year because they just can't keep off of their feet with it.
Sheff's statements about handling the teams emotions after that season are poignant. I wish there was some way to convey adequately the joy they gave everybody who watched them. These seniors will be remembered for their successes, for sure. I mean, how many teams other than PSU have won the big ten lately? That is a true accomplishment. But they may be remembered more for establishing a new culture in the program.
Interesting to hear near the end that he seems to be cutthroat with respect to RPI now when scheduling. Sounds like he will break with teams who he agreed to play whose RPI may not be high enough next year. I just hope he gets the balance right with all these new faces. Another job I'm glad I don't have.

Sounds like Notre Dame might be one of those teams. How about we switch them for North Carolina? I agree, he has to be careful. With all those freshman, he might end up 5-4 in the pre-conference if not careful. The more I thought about it, the more I thought the seeds should have had Texas and Penn State switched, just on the gut feeling of PSU's level of play to end the season. That would put WI in the final after beating Texas and Stanford, which we all know they could have done. It will be bittersweet to possibly have 3 first teamers for the first time ever, and have no NC to go with it. As far as PF, I had it, and it took a long time to heal. I'm a runner. And it's funny because you have to "remember" that you have it. When you are sitting around it doesn't hurt, and when you get out of bed it's like someone set your foot on fire. Walking around isn't horrible either. The first time I had it I thought I had gotten a stress fracture (and I was actually out of town when it first set on and I was going to a wedding. Boy did I just want to wear sneakers!). That's what makes it hard to resist "doing something." It can be ok, and you think you can run, and then a 1 mile goes by and you go "oh crap" and turn around and hobble home. Probably the same with volleyball - but then you do a few jumps. There are these sleeves you can wear on your feet at night to keep them Dorsey-flexed, and stretch out the fascia. Kind of hard to have your feet covered though! The other thing I had to do was roll my foot over a tennis ball. Simultaneously feels like death plus relief. LC is first team. Court and Tay are second team. Dom & Haleigh are HM.

Well...that's what I expected, but less than what I hoped. There was no real attempt to balance positions. Morey is the highest ranked libero, so hard to complain there. Courtney's position was all about what the committee favored, pure hitting numbers over a more expansive definition of the position. She was 2nd team given the former and first team given the latter. Hamson and Holston carry their teams as hitters. A FF appearance would probably have helped her case, but i'm not sure.

But...getting a little perspective here, congrats to all of them! They made us so proud. And it is actually a REALLY big deal to get three badgers on the first two teams. How many times has that ever happened?

Yep...this is a huge step up for the program. And it really shows how the team as a whole progressed over the last year. Improved in virtually every aspect of the game.
Taylor is the first badger libero recognized as AA. It's a pretty small list nationally.

How many times has that ever happened? First time it has happened. Should've happened in 2000 when Maastricht was left off 2nd team, but back then the awards were more evenly distributed among top teams, and there were only 12 players for 1st and 2nd team with no 3rd team. You rarely saw more than 2 players from the same team make an All-America team. It was a huge deal when Stanford had 4 All-Americans in 1996, even though they were Kerri Walsh and Sharpley on 1st Team (arguably the top 2 players in Stanford history at their respective positions), Folkl on 2nd (and there's no way there were 12 players who had a better season than Folkl in 1996) and middle Eileen Murfee who had a fine season. Now days, all the All American awards are loaded with players from top teams, and there are 42 players who earn AA honors, compared to just 24 from back in the day.

Congrats to all on their awards. I am glad Thomas and Morey made teams, because they really had great seasons. The middles probably didn't have quite the numbers to make a team, but they certainly did their part in making the offense balanced and hard to stop.

Outsider here again.
When I learned early in the season that Thomas was the setter before Carlini arrived and she switched positions to RS, I was blown away. What an unselfish move, a team move. Plus she really did a fantastic job at RS. Then when Carlini missed a few points against Penn State, she just slid into the setter position like she did it all the time.
I hope she lands on a good pro team.
As for Carlini - no doubt in my mind.
Morey - That girl is ridiculous. She's so much fun to watch.
Once again, really fun team to watch.

I was totally blown away when Thomas took second ball one match and shot a back slide set placed perfectly. The other team was shocked. Ball slammed. Everyone erupted. She's something special.

I think that if Court wants to go pro, she will find a team to play with.
