With the start of the season upon us, how fast will a dominate paring emerge?
Will Florida State,, Pepperdine or USC have the best individual pairs team?
It's early but if Kirby Burnham stays healthy I think she has a shot at repeating with Sara Hughes as her new partner.
I realize it's not hard to pick a previous champion, and granted Stevie is not easily replaced. However, her new partner plays a similar style of defense and adds solid sideout capabilities .

Florida? I'm going to assume you meant Florida State.
If Pepperdine has Dykstra and Strehlow together then they will challenge for the best team. However, I have a feeling those two aren't going to be together to spread around their talents. Dykstra also played well with Racich last year I believe.

Beautiful day at Zuma. Pep going with Lara and Becca as one and the sisters at number two. More updates to come.

I'd be somewhat surprised to see Burnham/Hughes (USC) drop a match all season. With all respect to Stevi Robinson, Hughes plays at a whole 'nother level. Maybe Becca/Lara can do it, I don't think anyone else can.

Well it just happened. Kirby and Sara got hammered by Lara and Becca.
Hughes got one serve the whole match. Pepperdine the real deal just spanked USC .

Pepperdine defeats USC...they won 3-0 with two matches remaining. Pepp's top 2 defeated USC's top 2

Looks like Strehlow/Dykstra swept Burnham/Hughes -17-14 and Pepp won 5-0 against SC. Didn't see it but that's hugely impressive to me.

Looks like Strehlow/Dykstra swept Burnham/Hughes -17-14 and Pepp won 5-0 against SC. Didn't see it but that's hugely impressive to me. Pepperdine looks in mid season forum already. They played with a home court swagger. Taylor went down in a freak tie up with one of the lines in the first match against Northridge. She was being tended too by her trainers for about five minutes. Glad she seemed ok as her sister set her for a crushing kill to win the set and match on the following play. Lara and Becca have played together in the USA Hp program and looked strong with excellent on court communications while keeping the ball in play. They kept away from Hughes to serve Kirby 99% of the time. A smart move. Kirby seemed to be hampered by her nagging back as she has not practiced for 2 weeks and it showed . After a few nice kills in her first match against Northridge, her vertical and foot speed went from fading to a full disappearing act. They will have to reduce unforced errors to be competitive. Nina switched up her #2 and #3 teams v. USC. I love her passion for the game, she is in her element at Zuma, and looks fit enough to play on the ones court. A great gathering today as fans, family and friends filled the court sides . Perfect 80 degrees and 1-3 knots of breeze. Pep did a nice professional job of fielding the event and staffing it with solid refs, score keepers and court shaggers. This is a great college sport and many of the up and comers were there to watch and support their future college teams.

Should it all happen, I like the chances of some these pairs; as the season progresses, of course, it could likely happen (in season-ing)..
The All-Samoan team of 6.0 Jane Croson - 5.6 Penina Snuka
Washington
Vansant - Tanner

Burnham/Hughes loses again. This time to the FSU team. They also won 21-19 in the third against the LMU team. Is Burnham's injury affecting her? Or are the teams learning to just keep the ball away from Hughes?

Or are the teams learning to just keep the ball away from Hughes? Saw it - Burnham doesn't look like she's anywhere near 100%. Heck of a match, though - Aurora Davis and Jace Pardon are a good team for FSU. USC won the overall match 3-2.
