Would you say blocking was a primary weakness? IMO it was inconsistency in the passing game. Let's be real, volleyball is 90% serving and passing and every team wants to get better on the pass. Our passing did have break downs last year, probably more than other elite programs. As did our serving. I'd put blocking right behind those two of things UF needs to improve to be a contender. Well said. I think the Gators will definitely contend for the SEC. They may not be a consensus pick to win the conference but if they work hard IMO they have what it takes.

I have heard some opposing player refer to Al Hassan as "Avatar." Is that a recognized nickname or just kids being kids?

I don't know about this kid, but "avatar" has become a pretty common nickname for long, lanky players. Pro Beach VB has two, one from each gender - Kelly Schumacher (6'5") and Ryan Doherty (7'1").

Yeah that may be a bit of an overstatement, but I'm excited for the matches against Texas, San Diego, and USC! I don't think the Gators have played the latter two in...well, I've never seen either of those matchups. I really want them to take at least one from Texas. They've been so close in the past.

I would say it could arguably be as tough a non-conference schedule as there is in the country. Not many going as tough as @ Texas, @ USC, @ FSU, vs Oklahoma, vs San Diego, vs Marquette and again vs Texas. Heard a rumor that @ Hawaii is in the works for '15 as well when the O'Dome is under construction. That will be bananas. Proud of Mary for putting this together!

San Diego, Marquette, FSU and Oklahoma all lose a lot from last year. Don't expect them to be as good. USC and 2x v. Texas will be stout tests, but I wouldn't call that the toughest slate by any means (esp. when you only see the two most legitimate SEC opponents - KY and Mizzou - once).

Ignoring the SEC portion, as I previously stated and was ignored, what elite program has scheduled tougher than this for next year in your opinion?

Ehh maybe not elite, but Creighton has a monster schedule.
