As very little separates them statistically, both are good but not great blockers, yes I would. I mean I guess I could operate from something comparable to a schoolgirl crush and say ones much better, but because I'm not prone to that, wild hyperbole, or gross exaggeration, I'll just stick to reason. Actually, you mean you'll just stick to your opinion.

I hope BYU does have a successful season. I'm just not ready to award them a top five preseason ranking like the rest of you just because Hamson returns. I don't see anything about their play in 2013 that leads me to believe that they'll be one of the best this fall. Returning a First-Team All-American creates expectations. Predicting that they'll be in the top five creates expectations. I don't think the players or staff understands how to handle expectations because they haven't ever had to do it before. Like I said, I would love for BYU to field a great team, but I don't think they're going to be one of the best in the nation. They'll be good. Not great. And they CERTAINLY don't have the horses to compete with anyone. They're weak in several spots. Lots of programs have bigger, better horses. "I don't see anything about their play in 2013 that leads me to believe that they'll be one of the best this fall." See the problem is, you make all these blanket statements, but you didn't see anywhere near enough of their play in 2013 to evaluate this. "Lots of programs have bigger, better horses." Name them. There's not more than 5 that will have more size and physicality on the front line. Hamson, Gray and Young would playing for ANY team out there (except maybe PSU for the latter two), and the rest of their starters aren't chumps. Please tell me what spots they are weak in, and your analyses of how these weaknesses are SOOO much worse than the other teams you'd consider for Top 5. Also, you're just speaking ignorance on the "expectations" part of it. This isn't a team from the B1G/PAC that's used to finishing 11-9 in conference. They've been competing for conference championships (walking into every match with a target on their backs) and advancing to NCAA regionals. They certainly have expectations. How impressive. I'm certain they'll make the final in December then. I doubt they'll drop a set.

My list would be 1. Stanford 2. Texas 3. Penn state 4. Byu 5. Wisconsin 6. Washington 7. USC 8. Illinois 9. Nebraska 10. Florida There is no way on earth that BYU is anywhere near 4. With Hamson and gray at the pins, I very well think they will be.

HAMSON HASN'T PLAYED IN A YEAR. True. So she has about 6 months to get her game back. Not a particularly difficult task.

Open gyms is all she'll have until preseason. Plus A2's - or whatever they call it these days. And if you think open gym is the only training she's going to have after that, I have some beachfront property in North Dakota I'd like to show you. BTW, I'm skeptical about BYU being ranked top five (or so) next season - it's going to be difficult for a team in the WCC to have the SOS and/or RPI to get to up to that rarified atmosphere. Although I haven't seen BYU's pre-conference schedule yet. Regardless, I do think BYU will be wicked dangerous next season, with two legit AA's at the pins and a very solid supporting cast. An elite eight/final four is certainly in the realm of possibility.

If the topic is a prediction of the AVCA preseason top 10 - then I believe (guess) that the final poll has a huge impact on what the preseason poll will look like. Here was the final top 15:
1. Penn State 2. Wisconsin 3. Texas 4. Washington 5. Stanford 6. Southern California 7. Nebraska 8. Purdue 9. San Diego 10. Minnesota 11. Florida State 12. Missouri 13. BYU 14. Michigan State 15. Florida
Making small deviations to this list due to players lost - this would be my guess as to the AVCA preseason poll (not what I think it should be):
1. Washington 2. Stanford 3. Wisconsin 4. Texas 5. Southern California 6. Penn State 7. Nebraska 8. Purdue 9. Florida State 10. BYU

Penn state will be in top 3 almost for sure to start season until they lose a match

Agree that if this is just what the poll will be, Penn State right near the top (Stanford loses 2 of their top players and Luck, as well, so not sure why Stanford is getting love over Penn State or Texas; Washington loses people, Wisconsin had quite a few losses last year; heck, just put PSU #1 until they lose a few)and BYU not in the top 10. Nebraska at least 7.

Here is my list of the 10 best teams going into 2014 that are not in the BIG, PAC, or Texas.
1. BYU - They were a good team before adding a 'rusty' former AA. 2. Florida - Lose a lot, but still a lot of talent and a Major program. 3. Florida State 4. Hawaii 5. Iowa State - will be battling Oklahoma for 2nd in the Big 12. 6. Creighton - They return everyone. 7. Pepperdine - Too much talent to continue to disappoint, new coach could help. 8. Marquette - Would be #2 on the list if they hadn't lost Coach and recruits. 9. Duke 10. Oklahoma
HM - about 6 other teams from the ACC, Missouri, LSU, UCSB, San Diego (I suppose, they lost a lot)

We were arguing all around game. Not setting. And once again I'll state this, there is more to being a great setter than setting. And if you READ, I've stated that statistics aren't the best means for comparing, but the other posted wanted statistics and data, so I gave them. And yes I'm the uneducated one. Because you're clearly a volleyball genius and should pick the AA yourself because you're clearly knowledgable in all aspects of volleyball. If you're going to compare statistics, you can't compare them in a vacuum. Compare the factors that led to those statistics, too. The hilarious part of your post is that you used points per set to solidify your claim that Hancock's all-around game is better than Carlini's, and you actually believe it. Hilarious. I blocked her long ago because she has no idea
