Their highest percentage hitter hit .168, and she was a MB. I'm sorry, but thats absolutely ridiculous. I know Highschool teams that that can do better than that. These coaches either need to do some serious thinking about what they did and correct the mistake, or they need to be fired. They can think all they want about what they did, and then they should still be fired! The reason for the firing would not be for non-renewal of scholarships. The reason they should be fired is the dishonest way they forced the girls to request their release. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it. Shame on the coaches and the AD for allowing this to have happened with no apparent consequences.

I would never let my kid play for those 2 coaches unless it was the only scholarship she was offered. Lost complete respect for them when they cleared the previous team out. Sorry I don't have the answer to your question. The coach's and all administrators who are in cahoots with these clown coach's should be terminated posthaste.

The truth has percolated to the top. SJSU I'm sure is desperately out on the recruiting trail as I understand they do have several more spots they need to fill. I wonder how many of their overseas players they have manipulated in their "system" and won't be returning. They will most likely have to rely on this trail to fill their sand team this spring and restock for fall. I'm sure the administration got to Shepardson (aka Longintooth) to stop posting on VT as he appeared to be incoherent and it wasn't helping the programs reputation. If you are being recruited to SJSU ....... be aware of the facts.

If you are being recruited to SJSU ....... be aware of the facts. I feel bad for the players they recruit.............it is a no win situation with coach's who do not know what they are doing.

They're not a totally stupid pair of people. It's not like they don't know what they're doing. They're just dirty. In that way, they're like a lot of coaches, only more brazen than most. And they advanced professionally that way, getting from Bakersfield to San Jose. Foolish hire by SJSU, which got what it deserved. It's a shame for the players who were there and got dumped. But I don't have a lot of sympathy for the newcomers who signed up.

We went through the same thing with Loyola Chicago not long ago.
Problem - A school is spending roughly $1 million a year on a volleyball program that is terrible, and an embarrassment to the university.
Solutions A) Keep wasting money on the same people B) Spend time and money trying to figure out who needs to stay and who can go. C) Change all of the people and start over D) Drop the program
Lets make this simpler. Your shoe laces are still tied but too lose. Do you tie more knots? Or do you untie your shoes and start over?
I realize that some people on here know and care about the people who were released. It is not a personal attack, but a statement of fact that San Jose State was not getting what they felt they deserved for their investment. The result is answer C, and so far nearly everyone has been held accountable.

I do feel sorry for the newcomers, they do not really know what they are getting themselves into. They are 18-19 years old.

FYI with the new legislation that passed, what these coaches did will not be allowed any longer.

FYI with the new legislation that passed, what these coaches did will not be allowed any longer. They won't be able to cut them, but that won't stop incoming coaches (or any coach, for that matter) from telling a player, "you don't fit into my plans and you're going to be buried on the bench...you'll never see the floor." Of course some kids will be content to stay, work hard in practice, and take advantage of the free education. I suspect more will request a release and start looking for another opportunity. Given the level of commitment and work required, I doubt most kids will want to stay with a program if they're not wanted.

I think a bigger deal that SJSU failed to understand last year was how they were in violation of California State Law since 2012. The Athletic Department quickly updated their web site to include CA2079 (under compliance) that was required of them back in 2012. The AD and Compliance department didn't have an idea that they were in violation of the law by not posting it, but a parent has to inform them. So in this season of new recruiting and choice, my personal opinion is that you should be aware and think twice about SJSU and any opportunity they are discussing with you or your daughter. More players from 2014-15 are not returning for various reasons.

What If a player is clearly causing trouble and or is just plain lazy. Would the coaches be able to cut them? Or would that still not be allowed.
