Don't like the choice. Iran not only is in pool D that will likely be the same pool of USA in the World Championship, but also it sounds like team USA is just trying to prove that they can beat the iranian team after the defeat during the World Grand Champions Cup last year. Don't you think?.

Iran are a rising team. They got a damn hard pool draw in last year's World League and managed to go 5-5, beating Serbia, Italy (!!!), and Germany. They'll provide very solid competition, which sounds like it's kinda the point?

Agreed. Iran is in a similar situation to USA, a lot of rebuilding but a lot of talent. I think one of their middles led world league in blocks. And the USA could benefit from as many friendly or scrimmages as possible. Best case scenario, we will start 3 or 4 new olympic athletes in 2016.

Don't you think?. You're exactly right. Iran has had USA's # in the last year and it's going to be an important hump for the MNT to get over for development purposes. The downfall to the Iranian team is they've only had their new coach for just over a month. I'm wondering how they'll gel and execute w/ the new coach.

Frankly I don't get excited for friendlies because you are not sure who they are going to bring. Obviously Iran is a darn good team. They survived a tough group and qualified for the semis. With it being so close to the World Championships you don't know if they are going to use it for a tune up, or rest their guys and get players 8-12 on their roster some experience in case injury hits in Poland. I also wouldn't mind Speraw using this series to get some other guys some action. There has been a lot of travelling and a lot of volleyball since October for guys like Shoji, Anderson, and Holt. A lot of countries have rested guys ahead of the WC. Heck, Germany didn't even include Grozer (MVP of Europe) on their 20 man roster for WL.
