I believe Sponcil was announced as an indoor/sand signee back in November for LMU, so she's locked in for 2014 at least at LMU. She seems to be a better prospect on the beach than indoor but that would still mean someone would have to come up with a full scholarship on the sand.

I had no idea this existed. Since I don't know what the criteria are for selection, I'm loathe to offer any criticism, except to comment on one exclusion: I think Sarah Sponcil is better than any player on that list. I think that the coach needs to be a member of the AVCA.....much less common on the high school level.

Somewhat related, here's the AVCA 2014 High School All-AmericansVanessa Freire Florida State Gianna Guinasso Hawai'i Josephine Kremer Notre Dame Julia Mannisto South Carolina 2014 AVCA Sand Honorable Mention All-America Hailey Devlin Arizona Mary Hernandez St. Mary's Hi'ilawe Huddleston Hawai'i Christina McAfee Tulane Nicole Mejias Notre Dame Ivy Schmitt UCLA Ka'iwi Schucht Hawai'i Elise Zappia UCLA No sure why they'd leave off both of the players on Mira Costa's #1 team given that Mira Costa won the IBVL and I believe this team went undefeated. Skylar Caputo (Pepperdine) and Lan Nguyen (Tulane) deserved some recognition. Skylar and Lan lost in the semi's in 2 games to Mater Dei's Elise Zappia and Anna Chin. They managed to win the match thanks to victories from 2 and 3 teams. Also I believe this list was only for seniors.
