Hodge is in the gym. She's just not able to compete. And I have no idea why you're worried about the fourth OH we take. If we ever get to the point where we're playing our fourth OH, we've got bigger issues than the relative difference between Lichtman, Hood, and Newcombe. Lichtman likely sees zero front row time for the rest of the year. She's there to serve. In the gym, but not able to compete? That's one way to put it. How would you put it?

I remember last time the Russian block gave us trouble. I'm hoping more time in the quick system will change that, and that it's a different season.

Not that she is "in the gym" That implies she is there doing things, close to joining in, but just not able to go yet. She is occasionally in the building, but nowhere near in any position to do anything, and wont be for a while.

It was one of our earlier matches and they were stuffing our lights out. Actually four I just remember their block being very imposing.

I'm really thinking Robo may blossom into our best outside over the next few years. Her vision and vball iq really has impressed me so far.

"Just as Hugh was in the last quad, Karch seems committed to using the 6-2 substitution, as well as a designated serving substitute (Miyashiro in London, now Lichtman) during games. Given that Glass is likely the anointed starting 5-1 setter for the foreseeable future, Thompson probably fulfills the role of setter in the 6-2 sub better than Lloyd does. As long as the coaches feel this way, my guess is Thompson will likely continue to be picked ahead of Lloyd on important rosters."
While this is all true, I would think that the WGP two years away from the Olympics is the PERFECT time to give someone like Lloyd a LONG LOOK at playing with the team. Karch and everyone knows how Glass performs with the team. Internationally, Lloyd is a very well respected.... playing for big time teams in big time tournaments; yet USA volleyball appears to not be very impressed. Its perplexing.

While I'm not disagreeing or agreeing with you. What makes you think that Llyod fits the current USA system? Just because she's well respected overseas doesn't mean she sets the tempo, consistently, that Karch demands. Just a thought...

I don't understand why they're not high on her. Maybe she doesn't fit in well with the system? Idk...

Is there any app or anyway to view the stream on an android device? I'll be at work for the match against Russia tomorrow but I don't have a computer to sit in front of...just my smart phone. I could watch Wimbledon on it so I was just curious...

I don't know if they have an android platform, but you can search for it.

Good point. I guess I would still be in the camp that she is too talented a setter to not get more real game experience trying to master the quicker tempo. In terms of player/system development, what is Glass or Thompson going to get out of this tournament? The tournament is not important in the long run. Send someone like Lloyd (unless you think she will never develop the quicker tempo offense) to get her much needed experience with the fast tempo.

I think the key words are "sets the tempo, consistently..." I don't think the issue is as much Lloyd's ability to set a faster tempo, but rather setting it predictably, especially with a relatively inexperienced group of hitters who are adjusting to that tempo. Or in other words, Karch may be limiting the variables as much as possible.
