Does anyone else wonder where the Pac-10 fans are?
Granted, they had a tough weekend, but I was hoping and expecting some comments from Pac-10 fans about their teams.
I would love to know what happened with California. I wish that UCLA fans would post more, they have a team that is definitely worth talking about! Stanford fans don't really know what to say right now, they're having a slow start to the season (but they are still very scary!). Washington never had many fans, but maybe we can lure in a few this season? USC folks are actually impressing me with their handling of the recent loss though. Kudos. Oregon people? Where are you? I wanna find out what's going on?! Oregon State, did you drop off the map? Washington State, what's happnin' in Pullman? Arizona State... think you can beat UCSB this weekend?
Let's hear Pac-10ers!

USC folks are actually impressing me with their handling of the recent loss though. Kudos. Well, the NCAA winning streak has to end somewhere, better now than later in the postseason. Also, with new and yound setters, you have to acknowledge that things won't always go the same way with Ross and company. Also, it helps that we have won the last 2 national championships -- helps to ease the pain, somewhat.

Yeah, Bearclause has been conspicuously absent this weekend. Common, there is no shame in losing. It is just a sport.

After having watched Stanford this weekend at home, I saw some improvements each match. I think that this years team is actually better than last years, believe it or not. I think that given a few more weeks to completely gel that this team is going to be good and is definitely will be making it to at least the elite eight this year. Passing is definitely going to be the key. Nobody has mentioned the USF match on Saturday I don't believe, and while USF is not the greatest challenge, the last two games were wone 30-13 and 30-11. Passing was on, and Kehoe showed what she is capable of doing when the passes are there. She distributed the ball very well and was starting to connect on quick sets with both the middles. Ogonna and Kristin and doing their duties. Hucke is playing very very well from the right side. Though off to a slightly slow start, I don't question this teams ability at all. Like I said, more confident in them this year than last.

Please don't hesitate to post news and notes about the squad, SU has a large following here because they have earned a lot of respect over the years.

I think they're hiding in shame next to the Nebraska fans. Let's revisit this concept when UH suffers it's 3rd conf loss of the season. Young, inexperienced teams lose, no matter how talented.

Yeah, Bearclause has been conspicuously absent this weekend. Common, there is no shame in losing. It is just a sport. I was a bit tired after taking in a football game (Cal 41 New Mexico St 14 ;D ) before the Cal Texas A&M match. About all I might have done after the two losses this weekend was either make excuses or vent, and I don't particularly like doing either. Anyone who's checked the PrepVolleyball "College Talk" board has seen a few of my postings. Well - if I've been missed, here's an article from the Daily Californian: No. 8 Bears Swept Twice, Snapping Three-Year Streakwww.dailycal.org/article.php?id=16079I will say that I am disappointed that Cal couldn't hold on to some big leads against Texas A&M. Every time Cal took a 4-7 point lead, they let A&M take it back with what seemed to be a 10-2 (or similarly large) run. I believe that a team that swept Kansas State should be able hold a large lead. In the article, Coach Feller said that they're still searching for an identity. Last season if all else failed, they could hand the reins to Mia, and she'd find a way. I don't think the season is in the dumper just yet because of two losses to good competition. They're developing new offensive schemes; they worked against KState, but not against UCSB/A&M. I like the rediscovered emphasis on spreading the ball around. However - the primary offensive weapon seems to be Angie Pressey, and she's still a freshman making freshman mistakes. I still say Camille Leffall will have a year where she really gets noticed.

I think I remember an interview with Dave Shoji before the season started that he would have been happy with a 6-4 record in the preseason. Now I have a feeling that the team and fans especially would be dissapointed if they lose more than one of the remaining preseason matches.
We'll have to see if they have a letdown against Cal this weekend, should be a great match.

I am one of those few Washington fans. So far I haven't seen my Huskies play except for an exhibition game against a Canadian team. They have won all their matches so far, but all against teams they are supposed to beat. Looking at their play-by-play, I got the impression that this team can dominate at times, yet after getting a huge lead it can give up strings of points. This has to be corrected against better teams. Christal Morrison, one of their freshmen, has established herself as a starter both as OH and OPP. She is currently leading the team in kills/game (4.53) while hitting 0.327; she is second in team in kill attempts and second in total points only to Sanja Tomasevic; she is also one of the three primary passers. She has a lot to work on, but I am very happy to see her in the team. Courtney Thompson has a year of college game under her belt. I expect her to take complete control of the game. Candace Lee has been tearing it up in the floor defense category, averaging over 5.8 digs/game. For Hawaiian fans, the Huskies has a freshman DS named Ashley Aratani from Iolani HS who has earned some playing time. Danka Danicic, the other DS will surprise you. Brie Hagerty always hits with power, but she has improved her finesse game which she needs when facing well-formed blocks. Kaitlin Leck, the lefty, was a starter at OPP last year, but she is currently behind Christal. One of the MB spot is owned by Darla Myhre the lone Canadian in the team. Three players, including freshman Alesha Deesing, are competing for the other MB position. Alesha is a very physical athlete who I predict will be a star in the middle soon. Last but not least, Sanja Tomasevic, Ms. do it all for Washington. She is amazing because she doesn't really hit with power or possess a superhuman vertical, but yet she continues to get her share of points. This season, she won't have to carry that huge load as much, since her supporting casts are much improved. Being tabbed at no. 3 is great for them. But, as Jim said, they don't care what their ranking is now, as opposed to at the end of the season. Now I'd better shut up; I don't want to jinx them

2c "Young, inexperienced teams lose, no matter how talented. " Gauchos are young - Gauchos are talented - could it be the coach, the team spirt, or the desire to win.

Sorry guys, I've been slacking! But in fairness I have only actually gotten to see my Cougs play once this year. Tomorrow night we take on Gonzaga. This should be a good opportunity for the team to get another win under their belt. Right now we're at 1-5 but we've only been swept once, so that's somewhat reassuring. Rebuilding year? Ehhh... maybe. I know that Coach Heff has won me over, Jenn Todd is talking way more on the court and Kelly Rosin is developing into a real hitting talent. Jen Barcus has been off and on. I'm in love with Stacy Holbrook. WSU is down to one setter right now in freshman Nicole Martin. MacKenzie Burgess is still recovering from an ailing back and Jessie Camp is nursing an injured knee. I estimate Mac will return soon but Jessie is a lot iffier. The team morale is really strong, especially in light of the current record. I thought we held up pretty well against Colorado State. We WILL defeat a ranked team this year. Beware.
