Fuller wasn't a serving sub. Caraway served 24 times... I'm not a PSU follower, I'm not totally sure who exactly does what. All I'm saying is that Rose clearly makes a number of subs, even if it's a serving sub for one set, a match, and a lot of those subs are listed as DS's in the roster. That is all. Lol k.

I love Frannti's upside and it seems she is in the mold of what was done with Deja and Megan but as with them in their underclassmen years she will need to sit and ponder from to time to time from the back row. Whitney and Prieto will not see the backcourt. Furthermore , unless Courtney and Frannti have developed some new serve in the off season I can see them being subbed for another server too from time to time. Again statistically over the course of a match it is my guess that you will see 3, 4 and 5 DS/serving subs coming in to add a dimension. Well, even if you DS Franti and the opp, and put a serving sub in for Courtney, that's only 4. So the 5th would have to be a serving sub for the DS/libero. That boggles my mind and just underlines to me how silly it was to move to 15 subs. It seems that people keep thinking in terms of a single game whereas I'm more in terms of a match. 15 is the number and heck if you have a girl who can score points of her serve or put teams in distress. No sir I am not changing my tune. I don't forsee any serving subs coming from ANYWHERE else but the collection of DS' s.

I think Akbar pretty much won that discussion but I hear Simone Lee has a very good serve. I think RR will be hard pressed to play most of the DSs unless he is willing to sit his starters during the match. This would only be likely if the scores were very lopsided. With the addition of more serving subs I would expect the competition for these roles would become more intense than before. I foresee RR making full use of his 15 substitutions.

I hate to say it, but Lee's serve cracks me up.

I think Whitney will be the new OPP. Will she see back court time? Possibly.

I say Lee takes the starting OPP spot.

A.Scott was farrrrr from the best pin blocker we had. Who bails them out OOS is the answer. They need a flat out terminator and I think that can be Whitney. I thought I read on here that Russ intended on Lee being an outside. Then again, I read it on here so.

Well, indeed A Scott was not the best blocker but she also wasn't the best OSS hitter either.

I'm starting to think that every single court position will be open for serious competition this year. Any previous starter who has lost their focus may be in for a reality check because these new freshmen can play at a very high level and their learning curve is being expedited. I expect a couple surprises by the time of the Nebraska-PSU match (not so much as to who starts but who plays the most). Of course the upper classmen will have the positions on day one but it is going to be a very fluid practice season.

Russ Rose doesn't hand a position to anyone, if he feels someone is better, he'll boot the starter. In the past he has benched Kate Price (who was Big Ten FOY on the outside), Melissa Walbridge (2nd Team All-American middle), Fatima Balza (Championship starting middle), Kristin Carpenter (set team to National Title) and probably others I cannot think of. This Penn State lineup is absolutely stacked with talent. The only positions that I think are truly safe are Hancock as a setter and Gonzalez as libero. How the rest of it shakes out remains to be seen, but if you look at the depth chart you have: Setters: Hancock Weiskircher Outsides: Courtney Lee Frantti Prieto Reed Opposites: Whitney Middles: Grant Washington Thelen DS/Libero: Gonzalez Dykstra Fuller many others Setting will be Hancock. Outside I'm guessing will be Courtney and one of the other 3. Frantti skill wise is ahead of Lee, but people are awfully high on Simone. Then there is Paulina who saw limited minutes last year. My guess is Courtney and Frantti by midseason. Wouldn't be stunned if one of the odd women out between Reed/Prieto/Lee/Frantti winds up transferring. Middles--Washington should have it locked up, and Reed was a starter last year so I think she'll get it again this year. Opposite I'd lean towards Whitney but think Lee or Reed could be a great fit here as both are high flying players that could put up a big RS block. I hope Whitney gets it because I think she is a phenomenal player who could break out, but she has stiff competition. RS

You are not showing much love for Dykstra but she is a newbie here. IMO she could be a Wonder Woman!
