Iran having major problems now usa playing well looks like we will close it out. We will see if we end up playing Italy again later depending what happens with those matches. Unless we breakdown in passing...

Th question is: how many real points did we score on our service? Side out points won't be easy as this with the Ita or Bra. And there's a reason I put Ita in front of Bra.

4 Americans in double figure points, Anderson 1 point shy. That's pretty incredible balance for a 3-set match.
Iran fell apart in the third set, but I don't think you can just say they played poorly because, especially in the 2nd set, they really pushed us hard and did a lot of good things.

until we know who we play in the finals, lets celebrate this win! amazing performance, coming out strong, passing well, serving bombs, and really exploiting our physical dominance over a smaller iran. Our best match coupled with probably their worse match = blow out!

Thanks Baywatcher. Wow, you tore us apart. Seriously, I think USA deserves to be the champion. All in all, though almost half our players were injured, it was a disastrous day for Iran.

I obv thought USA was going to win today...so I'm not super surprised at this outcome. I thought Iran would take a game...but really thought we would be too physical for them on offense. When all the pistons are firing for USA, is it really all that surprising we are here? We took 3 of 4 matches from every team we played in group play. Italy took it to us, but is that match different if we somehow pass a ball at end? From a defense and scoring perspective...we are a pretty scary group. Our middles...especially Lee...score a ton and our other pin blockers are all pretty good as well. We get great serving from Anderson, Holt, & Sander...while Micah and Lee are usually above average especially for their positions. We also have 2 guys in Anderson and Sander who can score a ton in transition both in and out of system. Our only true achilles can be our serve receive...but that's the case for other teams as well. Any team at this level who gets hot from behind the line will give it's opponent trouble.
So factoring that all in...I'm drinking the Kool-Aid on this squad!!!

i think across the board, we have the toughest serving team with the exception of a full strength russia. Micah, Anderson, Holt, Sander can all bomb from the service line, while Lee has a great jump float. not surprising because speraw's MO has always been a 'go for broke' approach from the service line since his uci days.
btw, what the heck happened to mikhaylov and sivozhelez?
also, i think we play italy in the finals, and that's gonna be a tough one in front of a packed house and against mr. zaytsev. I just don't think brazil can beat italy three times in a row.
