I don't believe Triangle answered that question of who will finish last. Yeah, whoops, I think it's a really close race between Georgia Tech and Boston College, but Boston College has proven it can finish last so I'll go with them as the bottom dweller.

I know Neff did it a couple years ago but she had incredible numbers and it just seems like one of the 6-rotation outsides (Walch, Sklar, Leaf) will take it because of the extra three rotations. However, I would love it if Neuenfeldt took it as she is the most dynamic and possibly most talented player in the ACC. Louisville's hitters will be extremely green next year with only freshmen and sophmores on the roster, but McVey and George are an outstanding duo. If they do make the postseason I agree that Kordes will win COY, but it may be an uphill battle with 5-9 sophmore Maya McClendon as their premier hitter.

Triangle: I think a MB can be POY this fall and Neuenfeldt is, IMO, the one to earn that recognition. She is one of my favorites to watch.
Louisville does have a top notch team with their libero-setter duo, I agree. George, a setter, just got back from Croatia with the USA Europe CNT team where she played libero in the finals at the Global Challenge. I think she was also named to the All Tourney team but I also watched FSU's, Mosher compete this summer with the USA CNT in Minnesota and she was the best passing libero according to all stat sheets among the 3 teams (Red-White-Blue). IMO she will deliver this fall as a senior and will earn Defensive POY.

UNC: Southern Ill., Long Beach St., Illinois, Michigan, Michigan St. Ky, Ga Southern, VCU, Oklahoma, W. Va.
FSU: Nebraska, Iowa State, Florida, Marquette, American, Texas A&M, Samford, LSU, Auburn, Central Arkansas
Miami: Seton Hall, Florida A&M, FGCU, Arkansas, TCU, Prarie View, Wisc, Ball St, Mizzou, Missouri St., UNC Greensboro

FSU has the toughest schedule but second is Notre Dame.
Notre Dame has Wisconsin, @minnesota, Wazzu, IUPUI, Western Michigan, TCU, Northeastern, Northern Iowa, Morehead, St. Louis, @purdue.
Also, Va Tech plays Butler, Wichita @kentucky, VCU, Texas A&M, @ohio, @mtsu, Belmont, Wazzu, Illinois which are all really good, but then they mail in the last weekend with Wilmington, Radford and Marshall, at home.

Duke (I'm a Duke fan, but I think UNC/FSU/Miami look stronger on paper) Who will be Player of the Year? Walch beats out Sklar and Leaf as best 6-rotation OH this season Who will be Defensive Player of the Year? Burrington (has a break-out sophomore year)/Mosher Who will be Freshman Player of the Year? Templeton Who has the toughest Pre-Conference Schedule? FSU Who will be the "Surprise Team" of the Conference this season? Pitt or Syracuse (probably sounds crazy but they have legit hitters & I expect Yelin will announce an impact foreign setter addition before the season starts) Who will finish Last in Conference? BC How Many Teams make Post Season? 6 (record high for the ACC) What Teams make Post Season? UNC, FSU, Miami, Duke are locks; 2 more from Virginia/Syracuse/Pitt/Vtech/NCState (the middle of the conference will be a battle) Who will be named to All ACC Team? Walch, Sklar, Sims, Leaf, Nneunfeldt, Uattara, Mourning, Burrington, McClendon, Obeime are my top tier. Janoswki, Alugbue, Nelson, Scott, Mosher, Houser, Welch, Andrew, McPherson, McCorkle, Owens, Wynn, Templeton, Workman will also have big years in my opinion. Who will be named to All Freshman Team? Templeton, Kubura, Dilfer, Olsen (GTech), Stavnetchei (GTech)... Trianglevolleyball, you seem like a Duke fan and knowledgeable about the program. I'm curious why you appear so confident that Duke will win the ACC this year? I definitely hope you're right, but I'm less optimistic at the moment. Can't wait for the season to start!

I don't like the term Duke fan, I'm more an ACC volleyball fan with biases towards the NC triangle teams. I'm not confident that Duke will win, but they won the conference last year and have the fewest amount of question marks. I think they have the best outside hitter duo in the conference, the 2nd best setter, two solid middles (Elyse Whitaker is really an improvement over end of the year Chelsea Cook offensively) and a top three libero replacement for McCurdy in Sasha Karelov. The only real question mark is at opposite, and I agree Duke would be in much better shape if Campbell hadn't transferred. How you think UNC can finish ahead of Duke is beyond me. UNC is probably my favorite team, but they have neither passing nor terminal outside hitting at this point. All those great middles and opposites can't do anything if the ball doesn't get to them. Miami is too unknown at this point, as to how Taylor Scott and Haley Templeton will be able to contribute. For FSU, a conference title is highly likely, I just don't trust their ability to replace Neff and find some girls who can pass. Hauer didn't pass very well at the U of M, and I've never been a fan of Walch's receiving skills. Duke may not win, but a fall to 4th seems rather extreme. Did you realize you only listed one setter amongst your top players? I think you underestimate what Deischmeister can bring to the court as a 5-1 setter at Duke?

I agree FSU's Burrington will have a break out Sophomore year. I actually think she got robbed last season by not being named to the All ACC team for her contribuitons last season. She was among the tops in ACC Conference only stats. Two observations: You made no mention of Louisville. What is your opinion of this team entering their first season in the ACC? Defensive Player of the Year has traditionally gone to the top Libero in the Conference. Burrington will be tops this season among the best MB's and I do believe Mosher will be the top Libero in the conference this season.

Burrington was recruited by the team I support so I followed her progress as a prep player. She played on the same club team as Jordan Burgess. I watched the 2012 Junior National Championship match. I thought Burrington was more valuable to her team's victory than Burgess. At the time I expected Burrington to develop into a top DI middle. It looks like that is happening.

Did you realize you only listed one setter amongst your top players? I think you underestimate what Deischmeister can bring to the court as a 5-1 setter at Duke? I guess I'm reserving optimism until I see how Duke replaces Campbell's production- mostly in terms of passing/blocking. I think Atkinson will step in fine offensively, but she is not a consistent passer yet and blocking-wise (Duke's weakest area) is definitely a drop from Campbell. I agree Sklar/Obeime is the best left side hitting tandem in the conference, but I worry about the passing load Sklar will have to bear this year. Karelov is solid but McCurdy was a rock in the back row for 4-years, and I don't know who will emerge as the consistent 3rd passer this team needs. Deichmeister had a breakout season as a junior, but unfortunately she broke her arm, didn't play all spring, and I believe just starting practicing again. Thus, I have no idea if she will pick up where she left off, or take a step back this season. Duke will have 4-5 setters on the roster this year- I just pray it isn't another season of musical chairs at setter like 2012. I agree Duke's middles will be fine, though Cook's leadership will be missed. Again, I agree Duke returns some very solid pieces, but they have important questions marks that need to be filled before I can predict them to defend their conference title. As much as I would love to see UNC crash and burn, they looked very solid this past spring and swept Duke in the match I saw (Duke was at full-strength besides Maggie). Their only question mark is their left side production, but Andrew looked much improved passing and hitting, and I think Adkins/Durr will be serviceable at the other OH slot. Whether Miami can contend for the top spot depends on contributions from Scott and Templeton, but I think these two will step right in and make that team a lot better. Volleyvolleyfan- re: Louisville, I sort of forgot about them. I don't really know enough about their new players to speculate, but I suspect it may be a rebuilding year for Louisville's standards. They have some nice pieces though in McClendon and setter George. I should have included Louisville and Notre Dame as middle-of-the-pack ACC contenders. Both teams have enough talent to compete for an NCAA birth if they maximize their potential this season.
