'guru, show me one video of another setter doing a back 10 to 15 if you're not trolling 100%. Even Sunderland said no one else in the world can do it. There's no video on it because it's a STUPID LOW PERCENTAGE PLAY. Just because Brazilians like playing high-risk/high-reward flashy offensive volleyball doesn't mean it's effective.
Sunderland's an announcer whose job is to hype up the action and make the match exciting. Of course he's gonna say that it was an incredible play.

It is an incredible play. You can't fault them for it. They run it regularly. The precision and timing of it are exceptional. Those are qualities that make elite level volleyball great.. As a defending team, knowing that play is in their 'tool box' opens up the position 6 attacker as well as the fast set to the left.

My favorite Brazilian play was when they used to run a tandem to draw the RS blocker in, and then have Giba detonate a quick A ball on a completely open net. Bonus chaos points for when they'd run it in transition.
I guess the BIC is about as effective and a lot easier to coordinate, but oh well it was pretty.

Brazilian volleyball deserves a lot of credit for moving the game forward.

I miss Giba's A balls too which were often A shoots from the opposite sideline.

My favorite Brazilian play was when they imploded in Beijing in 2008, and the USA won the Gold Medal by whooping their asses. And we didn't run a single back-1 from behind the 10-foot line, nor did we run any shoot sets to the A-zone from the opposite sideline. And we blocked the crap outa Giba and everyone else on that team.

It's not like they have a gold medal of their own, or have won every world championship since the 90s or anything.

It's kinda hard to seriously disparage the Brazilians style of play when every single team in the entire world that's anywhere close to elite imitates the style of play they practically invented more than ten years ago. That being said the 2008 gold medal match is also my favorite Brazilian play!

I must be watching the alternate volleyball universe matches for these teams.
