I'm curious to see how Tennessee will do as well. The most intriguing newcomers are Claudia Coco and Kanisha Jimenez. I've only heard really good things about Coco and with the loss of Ellen Mullins we need somebody to step in and Jimenez has national team experience with Puerto Rico so I'm wondering if she'll be the second OH opposite Jamie Lea. Compared to last season the only direction Tennessee can go is up. I think it'll be more interesting to see how many people transfer in a year after realizing they were recruited over before they even got to campus.

My five predictions for the upcoming season
1. Florida will go undefeated in conference play. With the loss of missouri's top two players in Kreklow amd Henning and the Gators dominance in the yearly recruiting battles I forsee Mary Wise' s team lot losing a match in conference play
2. Alabama finishes in the top 3 in SEC and also makes it to Sweet 16 of ncaa tourney...this may make people laugh however the team has become much more athletic over the past two years and is well coached. Should enter SEC conference play with a likely near perfect record
3. LSU will have the biggest leap in terms of record from last season to this season.
4. Ole Miss, tennessee, miss state and south carolina will only have no more than 2 victories total outside of the matches against themselves in SEC PLAY
5. Florida will have at least three of the four individual honors...freshman of the year, coach of the year, player of the year, defensive player of the year

It's going to be between belcher Santos lamb and gabby. I'm more partial to lamb starting and having belcher be the other both of them are quicker. But gabby puts up a bigger block though and sometimes blocks the slide well...sometimes. What about Snyder? She's my bet for L2. IMO her and Mallette/Santos-Lamb will be the outsides. I personally think it will be Mallette though. What are y'all's thoughts on who will set? I wasn't super impressed with Dagostino in the spring game but I haven't seen much of Detering either. I think that Florida can have success with any of the following in starting roles: OH: Recek, Lamb, Snyder, Mallette MH: Antwi, Alhassan, Joseph S: Dagastino Opp: Holston L: Unroe DS: Ororke, Pole, Monserez I think Belcher will struggle to find the court and I don't see Deetering getting more than mop up time this year. Rogers likely to see minimal time. Is bet that when it irons out, Recek and Snyder are the outsides and Alhassan and Joseph are the middles.

I believe so. She was pictured with the team during one of their conditioning programs and I've seen her on campus during the second summer session. The roster also doesn't list incoming freshman Iesha Bryant and she too is taking summer classes.

Florida and Kentucky at the top of the list. Both have easy schedules and play each other once as well as Missouri. The question is not will Florida win the conference but how far will they make it in the NCAA tournament. IMO there will be a big step down for the next tier of schools. Alabama. Had a good year last year. They gave other teams fits by playing good defense by not letting balls drop but they will need their hitters to start rocking. LSU good coaching staff and they plod along lets see if they can move up and stay in the top 4. Missouri I don't know anything about. New freshman setter and they lost some good hitters to graduation. Georgia lost 6 key players to graduations and transfers. Auburn will be good in the years to come. They lost too many players to graduation to be in the running. Ole Miss. They got better as the season progress but still were losing games. Maybe this comes down to coaching. Tennessee what can you say. They have a young team who may be good by their senior year if no one leaves. Arkansas, USC? Miss. State:(

I think she is better recieving serve now than any of the other outsides and that's what Florida needs more of than extra offense (Alhassan, Holston, Santos-Lamb/Mallette should be more than enough)

Good at blocking as well. Seen her play only a little bit but my impression from what I saw.

I read in the jobs thread that Coach Ojie has left LSU. Does that have any effect on the predictions for LSU?

LSU was impressive last year in beating Michigan and giving Washington a real run, in the tourney. And don't they get a flashy frosh OH, to give them some offense to go with great D? I don't know how many contributors LSU graduated, but i can see them doing well.

My annual SEC thread should be up later today...It's been a busy summer. Glad to see the conference is already being discussed evn though I've been slacking.
Best part about the SEC this year is the TV and online streaming coverage. SEC TV coverage will be 4x as much this year with ESPNU and SEC Network. The online streaming SEC Network+ will also have a plethora of matches.

Should I do my West Coast griping here or wait for Thrills annual excellent thread? I will here so as to not contaminate Thrills always excellent effort.
The SEC having only 18 conference matches, with 13(?) teams, leaves concerns about SEC teams getting bubble spots and seedings. Lots of us weren't wild about the 4-5 seeds going to Missouri and Florida, and results seemed to match the concerns. With the diluted conference schedules, are the SEC teams playing representative OOC schedules so the Committee has something to compare them to? The Big 10 has the same concern, but a much stronger track record for comparison.
Of the usual contenders, Florida certainly has one of the most difficult OOC schedules in the country, with Southern Cal, FSU, Oklahoma, Texas twice, San iego and Marquette. The Gators will earn whatever seed they get, even with playing LSU, Kentucky Missouri and Alabama only once. Kentucky is also representative, with USC, N. Iowa, N. Carolina, Louisville, Wichita St, et al. And LSU plays San Diego, Purdue, FSU, Baylor, but again, Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, Texas A & M only once.
The two teams that did not schedule hard are Missouri (Xavier and Miami, Fl the big tests) and Alabama (N. Iowa, Clemson, and San Diego State and Virginia the big tests) Alabama plays Florida, Kentucky, LSU and Missouri, arguably the top 4 in the conference, only once. Win a couple of those and then get a top ten seed? I hope not; sort of the same for Missouri. (Somebody was pushing Alabama as a third place candidate).
So Florida should be strong; as stated elsewhere, LSU was very impressive v. Washington last year and Mimi Eugene should give them the offense to transition some of those digs into points. Just hope we don't have Alabama/Missouri shoved in front of good Pac 12 teams again with one or two fewer losses on the SEC side.
