I just meant that I didn't overlook them - I mentioned them in my comment, and I think we have pretty much the exact same opinion about how good they might be! ;-) BTW - Thanks for the tennesseevolleyball.net site -- I really like what you do there, and I enjoy looking at it whenever I have questions about the Lady Vols! Good work! Um... How did I miss that?! Twice! Thanks for the kind words. I've got an SEC section with lots of links that readers that aren't interested specifically in UT might find useful: www.tennesseevolleyball.net/sec/Wow, whoever did this website did a great job for Tennessee's volleyball team and cool that they showed the other schools information.

AT The UGA RED VS WHITE scrimmage tonight. Team looks ready for the season to start. The new line up is ready to take on the new season. Passing, setting , front row looks very strong. Serving will be very aggressive and the new OH and Middle in the lineup look good in practice so hopefully that will translate to Awesome in game situations. Right sides are also very strong with Teknip returning from a very strong last season leading the way.
Go Dawgs

Did anyone happen to see the tennessee scrimmage last night? I heard they had put a lineup together and was curious how they looked this year.

I got there late, and to be honest spent a lot of time trying to put names to faces to numbers. Lineup still seems to be in flux, which isn't too surprising given half the team is new and very young. Was hard to get a feel for the team as a whole since I was figuring out who was whom and there was some switching sides. But based solely on the little I saw yesterday, Jimenez and Bawcombe are the two new players that I really noticed the most. Jimenez was very polished for a newbie. Bawcombe was more raw but had power and talent that just need to be honed. Again, very quick and dirty first impressions with not a lot to go on.

We out here are always complaining about nobody traveling out this way, and the Bulldogs are here! USF is a team that usually gets in a big win or two, but doesn't stay consistent. Bring a jacket! The marine layer is still here, and SF can get downright chilly in the mornings and evenings, even in the smmer. Hope Georgia enjoys their trip, and should be a good match, if USF can get their act together.

Really interested to see how LSU does against Purdue and Arkansas vs UM. Would be really good for the league if each team won, but if SEC splits those, I'd take it. I think LSU is a sleeper this year. Loaded with hitters. Need a good setting presence tho.

Both teams have question marks around setting and ball control/serve receive, imo.

Went to an open practice today for the Lady Vols and Jamie Lea looks like the player that will stand out this year for Tennessee. She has made great strides from last year and it should be exciting to see her play this year. I agree with James that Jimenez looks very polished and should be a great contributor for Tennessee this year.

It looks like Patrick did a good job of replenishing hitters and its good to hear the soph's are progressing. I always felt they had a tough road last year, sink or swim season for a bunch of newbies. Team is still young so we'll see how things go, but I would expect an uptick.
tnvolleyball55, how was the setting/passing?

The passing was good from what I saw. Hatcher, Villano and Coco all looked really solid and also Lea has improved her passing out of the back and Jimenez looked to be a solid passer as well. A recent article I read hinted at Megan Hatcher being the starting libero, but she's got competition because Villano looked impressive and so did Coco. Setting wise I think Lexi Dempsey has taken a leap forward, her setting looked a lot better and also she made some really good defensive plays. It will also help if Lea and Jimenez can pass well consistently out of the back row to give her more options. I'm still not sure if Rob is going to go with the 6-2 or 5-1 though, I bet money he'll experiment with both in the opening matches. Johnson and Tavakoli both looked good, either of them could be the second setter in the 6-2. One last note: Again I agree with James (recurring theme) that with time Bawcombe could be something good, she does have a lot of power when she hits.

Hey Thrill, did you ever find a ride to any Florida matches? Maybe you could ride with the Mosher's to Tally. The ride home might be awkward but...

I think LSU is a sleeper this year. Loaded with hitters. Need a good setting presence tho. I think their SR. setter will be better then last year, so the setting improves for 2nd straight year. Yes I see hitters in the middle but loaded? They need terminators at the pin and I don't see that but I will look harder next time I see them. SEC network will add to season excitement, getting to see many teams play I usually cannot!
