Seemed as though JM stuck with what looked like the best potential lineup based on the PSU match (Scambray at OH2 and Jones at RS2). Not switch in Schwann much or DeHoog at all.

Passing needs work...Also, seems like passes on free balls are not very good. Cuts down on setter options... That's what stuck out for me (at least as much as the broken video allowed). Cassie had a rough match in that department. I agree. I don't recall passing like that from a UW libero in a while.

We probably shouldn't look past Boise either.

Now I'm really worried about the BYU match next week. BYU, would give every top team hard rubs. They have the firepower and skill to beat every team in the top ten on any given day. Hamson is probably the best OPP in the country with Lowe and nwanebu close behind

Now I'm really worried about the BYU match next week. Maybe lessons learned from this match is just what the Dawgs need to prepare for BYU.

JMac playing Strickland at left-back - will be interesting if he switches back to playing his libero at middle-middle, with OH/OH2 at left-back.

Was Gonzaga playing that good....or was Washington playing the bad? Props to Gonzaga for not backing down! As mentioned before, this is the second year in a row GU has taken UW to five. 1) It's early, and teams are still working in new players. (Not that this was an excuse for UW last year!) 2) GU is a decent team. 3) UW continually dug themselves deep holes at the start of the sets. But in set 5 it looked like GU expected to lose. It was like, "OK, we fought well, now the Huskies are going to win." I agree mostly with you on this MG. I made the trip and was at the match. It was clear there was limited chemistry on the court for the Huskies. What was evident IMHO, was there wasn't a sense of who was the court leader for UW. Gonzaga played solid and played to win... until the 5th set. Deer in the headlights took over for GU. Missed serves during no brainer, crucial times. The Zags also took advantage of changing the tempo of their sets to mess with UW's swing blocking timing. UW is a strong team... but if they can't get that chemistry down and find someone to lead this team... there will be some L's in their future that shouldn't be there.

I was in Boise as well and totally agree that something seems missing right now for the Huskies. I even sent a private message to TomClen referencing what I saw as a lack of passion. Even though they are clearly very good, to me they seemed like they didn't have much fun during their matches.

My opinion is that the Huskies were a little off balance due to lineup changes and questions. This is probably true for any team with a handful of strong freshman as they figure out who best fits in what spot. It appeared that GU was consistently effective with a short serve that the Huskies weren't prepared for. This coupled with weak passing didn't allow the offense many options. The good news is the setters were able to spread the offense across all three front line positions, the freshman looked strong, and Nelson is loaded for Bear (and Cougars, and Ducks, and Trojans) this year.

Hamson is good, but Lowe and Nwanebu have national team caliber stuff.

I would say that there is going to be an uptick in the passing and serve receive quality when the comfort and communication comes from more time on the court together. This team is full of players with plenty of passion and enjoyment for the game. Leadership roles will be more clearly established and defined as well. Strickland and vansant will be the keys in the leadership area and once Strickland has adjusted to her new position a little better I'm sure things will steady out
