Yes, but there will be a Jimmy Nichols!! I believe he is playing with his son! Bunch of Florida peeps made the trip & Jake Elliott. East End will be having their Big Shot Championship same weekend in AC, so it's a double dip!

Thought Fendi/Brooke might take this one off.

Thought Fendi/Brooke might take this one off. Well, that's one way to make sure there's a different match up in the finals this year. Again, I continue to be amazed at the how few women are out there trying to compete on the tour. Every tournament there are two to three times as many men in the qualifiers. Hard to explain given how many more female volleyball players there are in this country.

The NVL has some of the women players that used to be on the AVP and could actually add strength to the field some.

I was at the Baltimore tournament where he and Kerins made an awesome run to 4th place, which I believe was his career high finish. Mike Schlegel, referring to Nichols use of his romantic skills to mitigate tour expenses said something like "Jimmy Nichols can get a place to stay anywhere."

Some interesting match ups on the mens side of the quali.
Chenoweth/Ammons have a pretty low seed and could pull some upsets.
If Burik/Dentler can beat Radde/Vanderwerp there would likely be a Burik vs Bates game to get in.
Interestingly, the top bracket is like the anti-cali bracket haha. Mostly east coasters with a few mid-westerners. All of the Virginia/Carolina guys seem to be in that bracket too (keeter/Gilmore, Elliot/tillman, dierstein/zuidema).

Most women get frustrated when transitioning for indoors to beach just because there is a major learning curve (at least tht is the common response I've heard throughout the years)

There are a lot of factors that I think go into it. A few:
The qualifier circuit in general is kinder to men than to women. A guy can make friends, get a free place to stay, hitchike, accept help and aid from random people much easier than a woman can.
The rewards are greater for men (no real groupie incentive for women)
There are more men's second tier tour tournaments to make money in than for women (at least historically)
More men in general want to be professional athletes.
I dont know if this is still a rule either, it used to be, but I imagine the requirement (at least from a social perspective) that you play in a tiny bikini is not something some women are thrilled about.
Being constantly ogled when practicing or playing
General cost of living and social stereotypes. For example ten guys can pack into a Mission Beach flop and live happily for a while. Not nearly so easy for women

As someone here informed me, since college has started the those players can't play qualify into an AVP event once school starts. I think 4 teams qualified into Manhattan Beach with current Collegiate ties.

Nice win for Donahhue/Lucas over Tillman/Elliot. Not necessarily that they won, but that the score makes it look fairly easy

sometimes the AVP gets the scores up in decent time, other tournaments like this one, it's horrible. Their twitter is lacking too today. If you can't show the product, at least keep people informed.
