At the time, Lehigh only had 1 volleyball scholarship available in that year--only like 3 on the whole team--but that could have changed by now. It hasn't changed by much. Lehigh might be at 4 total. Bucknell only has 2. Lafayette was supposed to up the scholarship count. I don't know what Colgate is at these days, but I am pretty sure it's close to full (or closer than most in the conference). While they all "have scholarships" the parity in that conference comes from the fully-funded (American, and the service academies, who are by definition 100% funded as every student attending goes for free... so not athletic scholarships, but appointments) to everyone else. American has the clear advantage. And they are doing big things with what they have. It is definitely an academically focused conference.

Is it possible that Colgate is not a D1 team? It was brutal! I think it was a high school team in disguise but have no idea what High School. Because they are in the Patriot League, whose philosophy is to NOT give athletic scholarships (what we were told at Lehigh), they are not very competitive. Who does well in that league? And that school is $60k/year to attend--beautiful campus, but who pays that? Anyway, the Colgate team was seated right in front of us Friday night. The girls were having fun, knowing they had little chance against Nebraska. But they were all filming the crowd, the intros, soaking up the atmosphere. Told us they would be happy if they got 100 people at a game, and here were 8k to watch the home team pretty much beat up on opponents. Fun to get their perspective. +1 Agree on all accounts. Sat by some of their fans during their Friday match. They were wonderful people having a great time enjoying a terrific atmosphere for college athletics.

Colgate is a fantastic school and one of the prettiest campuses in the country. Those players will do very well in life

John Baylor mentioned on the radio broadcast that the Colgate volleyball players get 1/2 scholarships instead of a full.

LOL Nebraska finally can beat someone and their fans aren't happy. Hard to satisfy you guys! I would rather see good volleyball and a Nebraska loss than the three teams they invited this weekend. The Florida State match for instance was quite enjoyable. True, I would have enjoyed it more if Nebraska had won.

Nowhere close to the teams Nebraska should get for this event. Cook claims they've tried to get several former Big 12 rivals up for it, specifically Kansas and Kansas State - both of which recruit in Nebraska. However, for whatever reason, those teams won't come to play in Lincoln. It's too bad, because Nebraska will sell out the Devaney Center for whoever, but that atmosphere is wasted on teams that can't match up. I'd love to have seen a Big 12 team or Colorado State or an SEC school come in for the Ameritas Challenge. If you're only going to get the likes of Denver and Colgate, you may as well turn it into an in-state classic with Creighton and UNO and keep the money local.

It could be that those teams don't want to come to Nebraska because Nebraska won't give them a return date. Nebraska seldom plays away from home before conference.

We're still waiting out here in Silicon Valley for Nebraska to show up at Maples Pavillion ... I suspect we'll both be long gone and buried before it ever happens.
