I think you misunderstand. I wasn't in the least bit surprised she got POY, but for someone who was supposed to be SO much better than everyone else in the country and touted as such on this board all season long, she didn't look like it in Dallas. I understand it's just one match and you shouldn't judge based on just one match, but it was the biggest match of her career. Oh, that is certainly true. She didn't play well in that match and I can understand the disappointment in wanting to see a player of her caliber and being a bit disappointed. But based on the season, both Ross and Cruz played well, but just didn't have "it" for POY. Ross was too well supported by her cast that made it difficult for her to standout. And Cruz did play well through the season. The point of the post is that I don't think it was a surprise that Willoughby won POY.

Does Kim's signing of a professional volleyball contract now make her ineligible for her final year of basketball eligibility? Previously, she said that when she came back to school after trying out for the Olympics, she wanted to compete in basketball her final year.

Remember that Lindsey Yamasaki played with the WNBA and still came back to play volleyball at Stanford. I believe there would be an exception for a non-sport, based on that. However, I wouldn't expect to see Kim in a UH uniform again, unless you're looking at pictures or her bobble-head doll.

The NCAA rule is that you can play professional sports if you are playing in a different sport than you played professionally in.

The USAV website has updated their 2004 National Team roster. www.usavolleyball.org/National/04wNTroster.aspBtw, when is the "stealth" MB going to commit/show up at Stanford? She seems to be still at OTC for the national team training. And knowing about the very "strict" Stanford admission process, does she have the stuffs to go to Stanford, or is it easier to transfer in (as opposed to applying from HS)?

Umm....Cynthia Barboza more polished than the NCAA player of the year? I think not. While Cynthia did make the Pan American team and play, she wasn't completely dominant, and definitely wasn't the best player on the team. Cynthia is a good prospect, but she is many years away from making the Olympic team. I think that anyone who follows this website knows that I am very fond of Cynthia Barboza and make no mistake about my desire to see her playing for Long Beach. She has great "potential" and surely at this stage of her volleyball career would appear to have the ability to play for the USA in the FUTURE. Having said that I agree totally with the comments that she is "no where near the ability" of a Kim Willoughby at this stage in her career.....I give Cynthia absolutely zero chance of making the Olympic Team for 2004, why? because she has very little EXPERIENCE at that level of play....hell, she ain't even played at the collegiate level yet and there is as much difference between the collegiate game and the International game as there is between HS and top level D1 collegiate ball.....I see this as a shortened version of what Traci Stalls has been through these past two years, and I also give her ZERO chance of making the Olympic Team for 2004! This will be a great learning experience for Cynthia, but she needs 4 good years of collegiate play at a top notch program that has a demonstrated ability to be able to prepare players for the National Team, and that limits the field to about 6 or 8 schools at best! Of course you all know where I hope to see her play in college

If Cynthia Barboza goes to USC they are going to need to impose a recruiting limit for the Trojans on how much talent they can have on one squad.

Of course if Barboza really wanted to prepare herself for the national team/olympics fast she would join Metcalf in Perugia and go to the university there! ;D

Well considering that Stalls graduated #1 in her class with a 4.0, I doubt academics would be a problem for her.

Of all the schools that Cynthia could end up at, I would be willing to bet just about everything that I own that SHE WON'T END UP AT U$C! You can take that to the f--king bank ;D

Yup. I specifically remember Lindsey Yamasaki returning to Stanford volleyball after a stint with the WNBA. I also remember Ms. Yamasaki is a hottie. When she played Hawai'i at SSC, with Lily, Maja, Nohea and Logan Tom on the court, I didn't who to look at first.

Just a curious thought.

I think that it is a two horse race, with Stanford being the other horse!
