Good for McCoy - definitely living up the the hype / potential.
It's tough being a freshman with expectations so high.

She is pretty darn good. Needs to improve serve receive a tad, but defense is fantastic!!!! It always makes me laugh, not in a bad way, when liberos can dig a ball to target or close but can't consistently do that on a serve. Sure, ball is moving more on a serve, but it just amuses me given velocity of most hits. Dont' get me wrong, McCoy passes pretty well...that skill just isn't as good as her floor defense.

Well I guess the question was finally answered: Formico was in fact too good for UC Santa Barbara and can be a great libero vs. elite competition on a regular basis

Well at least in this thread the importance on the back row is in play, unlike another one that basically dismisses STEP 1 of the whole process - PASSING !!! Curious though as to the thoughts of the agility of the DS/libero as it plays into passing. I'm asking because in a previous thread someone had mentioned that he hates to see backrow girls diving and sliding all over the court. His opinion was that they must be out of position or they wouldn't have to do that. I don't think that's entirely true although in some cases I'm sure it is. My thought is an athletic DS/Libero can keep a ball in play better that one who makes a perfect 3 pass to a ball hit directly at her but possesses no lateral movement .Here's your only 2 options: Would you rather have: A - have them pass 3 - 1's B - have them pass 1 - 3 Personally I'd rather have the ball back up in the air all 3 times with limited options rather than 1 perfect pass that may/may set right or may/may not be put down for the point.

My vote is for the athletic DS/Libero. You can teach positioning & technique but not athleticism. The athletic liberos also make many plays on second balls, covering blocks, etc. that don't get noticed on the stat sheet.

I think Wong-Orantes has awesome serve receive but I don't think so highly of her defense. I expected to have way more than 6 digs vs. Stanford. Yes I know it was a 3 set match but I think a libero should have more than that with an elite opponent. This comment makes no sense to me. # of digs in one match and her defense is flagging? One match is really no way to gauge talent. Justine adds multiple capabilities on the floor that don't always translate in the stats. She has been a winner at many level's indoor & beach. She sees the court and the game better than most and can think & pass like a setter wants and an offense needs. Alway difficult to pin the "your best" banner on any one player.

After watching Kentucky Jackie Napper deserves a mention in this thread she is the total package good defense, serve receive, and a tough server.

Well, a Penn State libero is never going to have huge numbers of digs, but Dom Gonzalez was amazing last night against Wisconsin. Spectacular digs, great anticipation. And she passed 3's all night.

Ever since the UofL UK game I have been so impressed. She has gotten SEC defensive player of the week 2 consecutive weeks now. She has really stepped up her game this year.
