At the beginning of the season I said that I thought the team with the best RS would win. With the production of the LSs in the FF, Candelas seems like she did the best job stopping opponents LS attack.

She was playing middle more than right side whenever I saw USC play.

Minnesota and Florida had the best right sides when the season ended...

Didn't Olsovsky play right side for USC usually? She's pretty good--but I'd argue that Busse was a better right side player.

Olsovsky is obviously a very good player, but IMO she doesn't appear that comfortable at RS. Her best position is MB and I've seen her hit pretty well from the outside, but she seems to struggle on the RS when the set is off the net, if the set is coming from behind 10 foot line, or if she has 2 blockers up against her.

Olsovsky was USC's rightside. If the team with the best RS were to win, Minnesota would be the current National Champions.

Richee, You were right in your own eyes, and, in most cases, that is all that matters right? Besides, do you really care what we think here anyways? Agree with Barefoot, though, Busse was the best right-side, hands down. Next time, make a premonition that has Hawaii coming out on top, if you're gonna be wrong, at least keep face with your fellow fans.

I dunno . . . I'll take playing like KatieO most days of the week.
Granted Busse was AWESOME! I love the way Mike manipulated there D so that she (as a RS) was hitting out of middle back. I think like half of her kills were hitting the pipe.
Richee . . . you could have refined it to "the team with a distinguished RS that has a lot of backup."

Sorry, I meant Olsovsky. That post was inspired by a 6-pack to it was kind of garbled. I meant to say the team with the better defensive RS seemed to win throughout the tourney.

When USC was running their 6-2 Katie wasn't playing back row so she wasn't making an impact at all on defense in that situation. When USC went to their 5-1 she played opposite Toni and she did play very good defense. Cassie Busses played back row all season as the opposite for the Gophers and was behind only Paula and Lindsey in digs for Minnesota for the season. In Minnesota's match against USC her 12 digs lead the Gophers and the only USC player that had more digs was Nicole Davis at 18. Katie only had 4 digs in that match, but as I said she played back row only when USC switch to playing a 5-1.

Busse is definitely the superior player between her and Olsovsky! No contest!

Yeah Busse is a more accomplished Opposite than Olsovsky, but you have to remember that Olsovksy is primarily a MB who i sshifted to Opp this season. What I like about Busse is that she is quite an offensive weapon from the backrow too. She can torpedo down a kill from behind the 10-foot line. Olsovsky meanwhile is tentative in her backrow attack (mostly, just lopped the ball over), and is more dependent on perfect sets from Anderson.

From what we saw at the regional in the Pyramid, Busse was an awesome player! totally complete game as you said, big, strong, and durable! Smart player as well. They had a chance to put USC out of the tournament but their inexperience really showed in the first two games(both of which they could have won)

There's a lot of coulda woulda shouldas. UW should have beaten Minnesota but they didn't. Oh well. Busse is far better than Olsovsky at OPP. Olsovsky is far better than Busse at MB.

Front row defense? I didn't think about digging included in defense, whcih it is. I'm not sure how to phrase it. The idea was that all the LSs were so good it was a matter of negating them, which would make that the RS's primary function this season. I actually should include the setter as well because blocking wise USC's setter was the smallest liability (strongest weakness?)with their 6-2.
