There is a huge matchup between LMU and Pacific at LMU on Saturday. One of those teams will move to 12-5, alone in second place, and the other will tie for 3rd with Santa Clara, which is idle this weekend. It is possible all 3 teams could finish with 12-6 records. (Edit: It's fairly likely that FOUR teams could finish at 12-6, including San Diego.) BYU should get some competition at Gonzaga Saturday. Both teams played Washington to 5 sets in the preseason. Looking at how the WCC teams are finishing their conference schedules, I am most surprised by San Francisco, which looked strong at the beginning of the season, and now is in a huge skid. Gonzaga has also faltered a bit. Pepperdine, on the other hand, is finding its mojo a little late into the season.

Pacific easily took the first set over LMU. LMU looked out of system the whole time.
Gonzaga took the first set pretty easily over BYU.

LMU rebounds to take the second set 25-18. Tied 1-1 at the half. BYU lost 25-17. Down 0-2 at the half.
BYU's setting was really off in the first set and early second set. They subbed in Robbins-Hardy at setter in the second, and improved set location, but still made uncharacteristic errors. Gonzaga is on fire, digging everything and hitting well.

BYU found their rhythm again in the 3rd set, winning 25-18 with Willardson back at setter. Now down 1-2 at Gonzaga.
Pacific steamrolled through another set 25-16, in a replay of the first set, with great hitting and blocking. Pacific now 2-1 over LMU.

BYU survives 15-10
At 10-10 Gonzaga had a backrow attack that went off the hands of the block and long but no touch called. I thought they got robbed there and even the BYU backrow could tell there was. Thats where the momentum shifted. Either way good fight for Gonzaga.

Gonzaga is a good team that isn't advancing this year and I'm not sure why. Pacific got outperformed in set four, then comes back to win. WCC will drive you crazy and I have to wonder how good these teams really are on a national scale.
