Calling someone the 3rd best out of 14 (at least) isn't exactly heaping abuse on someone.

A setter does more then just set. She's the quarterback on the floor, she digs, dumps, sometimes blocks, serves. Can't just take one aspect of what a setter does. Hence why I said PURE setters. I think everyone knows my stance on micha, and this isn't going to be a micha debate again. I've said time and time again, I would take micha on my team, anyday of the week Maybe Micha has redefined what a setter can be in the future game of collegiate volleyball. Certainly the definition of a quarterback has changed there and even at the pro level. Of course many so set on what a "setter" is. Ugh. Then again maybe she is just an anomaly.

and if you exclude Hancock's setting, she's not a very good setter either. Tashima is the third best setter in the conference IMO. Second, if we exclude Micha's serving and attacking. She's going to do a lot for Northwestern.

This notion that Hancock is only an OK setter whose real value is her serving and play at the net -- that is two years out of date and it's time for people to stop repeating it. Anybody who watched the PSU-Wisconsin match would know that -- her setting alone outshined Carlini's in that match. And really this is not new. She was setting really well the last half of last season. This year it's another step forward. Hancock is making difficult sets look routine -- quicks to the middle, slides, fast to the pin, fast crosscourt, saving overpasses etc. And yes, her hitting ability helps her setting because opposing middles have to defend the second touch. She also has more hitters this year who can handle sets at different heights, different speeds, and once they get the timing down, that is going to make the PSU offense even more difficult to defend. She gets help. One of the reasons Hancock can do all this is PSU's passing looks improved. Gonzalez has been a rock solid passer this year. Courtney's passing looks improved (her backcourt D was already stellar). This is the best early-season passing PSU fans have seen in quite a while. (though Minnesota's serve did stress them). Along with those exclusions, you also might want to exclude PSU's hitting percentage. Micha is by far not one of the best pure setters in the nation, yet alone in the conference. Psu hitting percentage is attributed to them being freakishly good. BUT, like I've said before, micha overall game, and her leadership, are better than EVERYONE in the b1g and maybe even in the nation. Carlini and tashima are better setters, micha is a better player.

Yep, people who are knocking on Micha's setting ability need glasses. In MN, I actually saw her running to the back court at full speed and still able to set to the front to one of the pins on precision, a la Carli Lloyd. Amazing. And she out-set Bugg and Carlini when played against them, and that's not enough. How pathetic these people are. And that's not taking her serving into account!

I think Micha has a good a chance as anyone to play for the National team, if that's what she wants. She goes all out, every time, every game.

The "average setter but great player" narrative of Hancock was perhaps true when she was a freshman, but not anymore. She's fabulous. I would not be suprised to see her in Anaheim this summer, if that is what she wants.
Micha had a great week. She beat the crap out of Wisconsin and Minnesota. She deserves this award. Congrats to her. Ditto for Gonzales. And while I didn't see Birks play so I can't comment, frankly, I'm surprised that Megan Courtney didn't get POW. She blew me away against Wisconsin Wednesday. Wow.

Love to see Gonzalez get this honor. I am always a fan of great D and she has stepped up her game. Not that she was bad before this year, but she just seems markedly better. The backrow D in general is improved, which says a lot coming off of a national championship season.

Dom and Lacey have really solidified the back row and we are on course for a great season. They are digging and passing better than ever. It is too bad they don't have a team award also.

You guys make like micha is perfect. Setting wise, and on setting alone, I would take bugg and carlini any day of the week. BUT, player wise, micha hands down. She outright outplays everyone on the court. She has a bright volleyball future ahead of her.
Psu fans get so mad when someone even remotely critiques one of their players and it's ridiculous

I would've gone with Hancock as POW because of who her team beat and how.

But a lot of us are defending her because some knuckleheads have all but declared that she is nothing more than a great server playing setter. We are just saying that she is a bonafide of a setter as there are any out there and a pretty good one too, especially when she has outshined/outplayed/outset the other so called great setters. Yes, I will agree that this horse has been beaten to death. But for some reason, no credit is given to her by some naysayer(s) no matter what.

It's hard to go to far into this debate cause it's goes around in circles till your blue in the face. The carlini fanatics are never gonna let it go. That's fine we all have our own opinions. Facts are 1) Hancock has national championship and tourney MVP and was up for espy 2) Hancock went head to head against bugg and was better at her position. 3. Hancock went head to head against the next messiah carlini and took her to school 4) Hancock has one of top two serves in nation and there' isn't another setter on top of that list 5 ( Hancock is 2-1 against bugg and 4-0 against carlini. How many more do I have to list ?
