I actually still prefer the Sony Digicams (the images produced by the Carl Zeiss lense are amazing) even though they use Sony's proprietray memory sticks and batteries. I've got the DSC 707 now, and am very much considering the latest model if I ever see it officially being sold anywhere. Sony models are very nice too but I have not been able to justify the cost for them (both the machine and storage). Like the PDA case, I opted to go for Minoltas or Nikons and spend the difference in a better storage card and a good quality charger... I'm no professional so my S414 and Xt are plenty enough for me.

Hmmm.. When I got my 707 I was able to get it over the internet for about the same price (or less) than any of the other new 5 megapixel DigiCams that were being released at about the same time. I haven't done much comparison on prices between the newer models that have recently been (or are about to be) released. I'm still leaning toward the new Sony at this point, though I'm not totally opposed to purchasing a different brand if it gives me the functionality I want. I've had Casio and Olympus DigiCams in the past and liked both of those very much while I was using them. I tend to wait a couple of years between buying new DigiCams.

That happened to me when I got the S414. I could get that around the same price as the 3MP stuff. One really needs to look around for the best deal at the time.

As far as cameras go I'm sticking with Nikon. Looking around, it seems like that pretty much locks me into CF.
I was thinking about getting the 3500, but I am worried about the locking mechanism. There is no lens cover, so if it doesn't lock into closed position the lens will probably get wrecked.
It would be nice if there was a swivel camera (to take pictures of myself) that had an automatic shutter that closes when you turn it off. The only ones I've seen are generic brands. The Nikon SQ looks promising, but I can't find if it moves 180 degrees, or if it has a shutter.

Hmm I'm not familiar with either model. But I have been finding very good reviews at www.steves-digicams.com If you haven't already done so you might want to check it out.
