A good friend of mine who posts on this board on a regular basis and turned me on to VT made a prediction that appears to be coming true. He said that the people from prepvolleyball.com who have axes to grind would start migrating to VT. I have read a few recent posts from new members that make me think the invasion has begun.

A good friend of mine who posts on this board on a regular basis and turned me on to VT made a prediction that appears to be coming true. He said that the people from prepvolleyball.com who have axes to grind would start migrating to VT. I have read a few recent posts from new members that make me think the invasion has begun. Prepvball board has become a little bit weird: most posters are extremely touchy and any criticism (no matter whether it’s reasonable and positive) is a reason for endless arguments, name calling etc. At the same time board administration announced all posts must be strictly positive and shut down quite a few threads. So any time you post player’s name you see something like “be careful what are you saying”, “behave”, “your posts are not welcomed here” and so on. Nothing strange some people got tired.

Prepvolleyball.com message board is directed towards a different set of patrons. A majority of their posters/readers are highschool age girls and their parents/friends/coaches. The management made a point to protect/shield these players from derogatory comments. I think this is appropriate. I think most parents and players appreciate this. People who don't like the restrictions can find other venues to post/read volleyball-related articles like this board. I for one enjoy both message boards.

I believe LWood's post was misinterpreted by the previous posters. This is what I got from the post: He enjoys this board and the posters on it. He also goes to PrepVB, but is seemingly becoming more and more 'disappointed' by all of the negativity that surrounds many of their threads. He hopes this "trend" doesn't continue to "infiltrate" this board. Case in point, there's a thread on the 'College Talk' board (at PrepVB) that's "bashing" college coaches. Many of the comments there have no factual basis and are merely opinions, but with the membership make-up of that board (players & parents); it could present problems for college coaches. It's sad to think that there are so many "lemmings" out there that believe everything they read, but it's true (which you can tell by the responses). JT himself has already stated that he isn't thrilled by this thread, yet hasn't chosen to shut it down (which is his prerogative). In comparison, someone attempted to start a thread (on the same board) of "good coaches" and was promptly "bashed" (in fact, the very first response) by the person who started the "mud-slinging" on the aforementioned thread. So, I believe that LWood was simply stating that he is concerned that this board will follow a similar path if people migrate over here. I, for one, hope this isn't the case because I enjoy the mature level (yes, even Gorf's ramblings) of discussion that exists here. People can state their opinions, debate and even agree to disagree. All of this is done with minimal (if any) "mud-slinging" and/or "name-calling" - something that I hope doesn't change. Now, I could be wrong. If so, I'm sure LWood will let us (or me) know!

What, as opposed to this board?

chilipalmer, I'm not saying this is exclusive to PrepVB, merely that the comments being made (even though many are opinions) are malicious in their intent. This seems to be the "norm" there lately and it's sad that this is their new current trend. It's clearly not what JT intended the board to evolve into, yet it's becoming more and more prevalent there. What's even more disturbing is that people don't seem to care what their words may be doing to the individuals they mention. JT does a nice job keeping an eye on players that get "attacked" (not so much with coaches), but has too much on his hands to monitor all of this. Simply stated, it's sad that people can't just "get along" and I'm glad that (so far) this isn't the case here at Volley Talk!!

Let them come forth like baseballs pitcheth to thine bosom. Thy haveth a bat waiting to be swung. Will you be swinging the bat by its legs, tail, wings, or some other part(s)?

I enjoy the mature level (yes, even Gorf's ramblings) of discussion that exists here. Gorf rambles? Gorf prefers to think of Gorf as being precociously loquacious in a mostly innocuous yet sometimes recalcitrant manner. ((* Gorf is feeling a bit 3rd personish at the moment. *))

True The great thing about Volleytalk is that you get all the pertinent Volleyball info you need while still being able to call people a "[d]umbass" and such. Freedom is bliss. Keep the Highschool girls and their following on the Prep site. Most Vtalkers are knowledgeable volleyball fans with opinions just itching to get out.

There is also a major difference in that I must be signed in to post HERE. I know none (or few I guess) of you know who I am personally, but I must be held accountable for everything I say. Because wether I am likeperky, likewoah, or likeblue you always know its me. So I am slightly more cautious about who I bash and when I bash and what kind of info I send forth. At the Prep board, people switch names, etc. with almost every post. So there is no accountability. They are still working out the bugs and I think it will get better if they can actually get some people to log in every once and awhile. I don't think the negativity will be able to infiltrate this board. Roger would have none of it! After all, we nipped that Jewel in the bud awhile ago.
