the match up......
Both teams very similar; losing some games they should have won. Minnesota was rotating their setters, now seems to have decided on Shau. Minnesota stronger middles, Nebraska stronger OH's. I give the nod to Nebraska on more consistent passing, although Goeghner is doing a nice job. Serving just barely to Nebraska; Santana tough serves, Albrecht and Ethridge tough serves. Blocking a draw. Should be a fun match, Nebraska has struggled with Minnesota at Minnesota, and Minnesota has struggled with Nebraska at Nebraska.

How about some match links?
Is it on TV? Match notes? etc. Where? Is Santana able to play?

Minnesota has beaten Nebraska once in ten tries. They have also lost to them in five 5 times. Their one win was 21-19 in the 5th.

Minnesota will have their hands full with Iowa.

I love our Minnesota team, but I just don't see a win happening with Nebraska this week unless we can get healthy quickly (and somehow clean up passing and setting).

...always remember folks...Minnesota is an "elite" program. (does elite include top 50?)

Don't dispare Crafty; the Gophers have a very good chance if the team that won against OSU shows up at the Pav. They clearly need to put that last Badger loss behind them, stop relying on Daly and spread the sets around more.

...always remember folks...Minnesota is an "elite" program. (does elite include top 50?) Some people are not exactly elite posters. Some seem to hold on to odd grudges for months on end. Minnesota has been a top 15 program year in and year out for over a decade. They went to three final 4s in that time. Choose a different word. I don't care. Regardless, this season would not be such a big deal had the previous decade not occurred. Were they ever at the level of PSU, Stanford or Texas? Nebraska even? Nope. And no one ever claimed they were. But top 15 out of 300-whatever? I'm pretty sure that's the 95th percentile.

...always remember folks...Minnesota is an "elite" program. (does elite include top 50?) What is with you, RR? If memory serves, this is the second or third time you have made the same snarky remark. If memory also serves, Minn has been in three final fours since 2003, made it to the regionals the last five years, and hasn't missed a tournament bid in ages. Few programs--not none, but few--have been as consistently successful as the Gophers over the last 15 years. "Elite" is just a word, with no fixed definition. It is perfectly reasonable for people to think of such a sustained performance as "elite," even if you aren't so inclined. If you want to define it as winning it all, or successful at recruiting nationally like Stanford and Texas, or some other standard that Minn. doesn't meet, go ahead, Noah Webster. But your sneering is pointless. There seems to be little question that the 2014 team is considerably weaker than its teams in the recent past. It isn't looking good for a continuation of the five year regional streak. Heck, it's not looking all that good for the continuation of the who knows how many straight years of tournament play. That's what sometimes happens when you graduate a first team all-american and a second teamer. 2007, the year following the graduation of two other players who had been all-americans at some point in their Gopher careers, was also a down year. But people wouldn't be talking so much about a "top 50 team," but for the fact that the program has been consistently in the conversation, for so many years, about teams that are likely to be seeded, come tournament time. Put another way, if Minn wasn't an elite program, its current less than elite level of play would pass unnoticed in the volleyball world.

Crap. While I was writing my own rejoinder, Ruffda beat me to it. Oh, well. Great minds think alike.
