The human factor will always prevail over the numbers. Yes, there are law of averages, but as a Coach you have to find a way to find someone who will rise tonight above those average! Motivation, experience, how well your players slept and what they have to worry about can affect their performance and numbers on both ways. Knowing your player and what is going on with families and school will help you to make a decision. I had once girl, who came to me right before the match and told me that she can't play tonight, since she feels like something happens to her Mom. I saw that she really out of the match mood and could only tell her to go and call home. It's turn out that she was absolutely right. Learn to trust your players and your own feelings. She was my second best DS and we felt her absence, but I never regret my decision to let her miss this game. What numbers can substitute your intuition? Full disclosure, I am really big on numbers during preparation, not as much during match. Numbers can help you, but will never substitute for ART OF COACHING!

Carlini: "Coach, I can't play tonight since I feel like something happens (sic) to my Mom." Sheff: "What are you talking about? Get the f*** out there and set!" Maddie Smith: "Coach, I can't play tonight since I feel like something happens (sic) to my Mom." Sheff: "I see that you (sic) really out of the match mood and can only tell you to go and call home."

www.goblueraiders.com/news/2015/11/2/WVB_1102152217.aspx?path=wvballMiddle Tennessee State is open. MURFREESBORO – Middle Tennessee Director of Athletics Chris Massaro announced today he is terminating the employment agreement with head women's volleyball coach Matt Peck, effective immediately. "After an extensive review of the volleyball program and declining results the past four seasons we felt a change in direction was needed," said Massaro. "We want to thank Matt for some of the success he has provided our program over the years and wish him the very best in his future endeavors." Peck, in his 12th season at Middle Tennessee, leaves with an overall record of 208-241. The Blue Raiders are currently 8-19 this year with three regular season games remaining. Associate Athletic Director and former women's volleyball coach, Diane Turnham, will serve as the interim head coach until a replacement is found. Turnham was the Raiders' head coach from 1982 to 1987 and again from 1992 to 1994. A national search for a new volleyball coach at Middle Tennessee will get underway immediately.

This is going to get really ugly, really fast...excerpts from the previous link
"For the record, I was terminated because of my record the past few years," Peck wrote on his Facebook on Monday. "Even though we suffered a NCAA major violation from the previous coach and lost (four) scholarships in the process and we are just now recovering from that.
"As recently as 2013 we had an Rating Percentage Index of 88. I was told in a meeting last spring by Chris Massaro that he didn't care if we won six matches and long as there is hope, which with eight freshmen and on the verge of making the conference tournament this year starting four freshmen is very hopeful.
"Other coaches all year long have told me what great potential our team has and how good we are going to be in the future. I am going public with all this and more. The days of different standards for coaches of female sports have got to come to an end.
"Please pray for me and my staff and team as some very ugly things regarding the athletics department and university are going to come out. I'm a fighter and I'm not going down easily!"
