Graduating 2017: OH: Scambray, Schwan; OPP: Jones, DeHoog; S: Tanner, Finau. That's a ways off, however... Wow maybe a really good recruiting year for Washington if they can establish themselves in the recruiting wars/ if they can get some really great players(don't know how well they will perform and how it will affect the recruiting) Hard to say. Cook has to prove himself - successful 2015 and 2016 seasons wouldn't hurt. JMac benefited from some pretty good NW recruits: WA: Thompson, Morrison, Mussie, Collymore, Barfield, Rowland, Dunaway, Munoz; OR: Lee, Deesing, Parker, Nelson,; B.C.: Myhre. He didn't bring in a top-ten national recruit from out of the region until Vansant. Hopefully, Cook will discover some local gems (Sanders?), now that the "T-Street pipeline" has seemingly been diverted to Palo Alto.

I'm guessing that the #91 Senior Ace is Kara Bajema. Good to see her get some recognition, although it could simply be due to which school is recruiting her...

I don't care how good Scrambray was as a frosh (she tapered off in the second half of the season), or how high on Jones redbeard maybe (it's a little annoying), NOBDOY IS GOING TO REPLICATE VANSANT'S NUMBER THIS YEAR. Could it be Scambray's weird sway-back hitting motion, telegraphing where she was hitting and contacting the ball at a lower-point, that caused her to taper off, once opponents got a look at her on tape? Hopefully, Keegan is making fixing Scambray's arm-swing project #1. Since I haven't actually seen her play OH yet, it's not really a matter of being "high on" Jones in that regard. I'm perfectly fine with her playing at OPP, although I do think that having your best attacker, if that is what she turns out to be, at OH is somewhat of a no-brainer. Switching her to MB, however, no, no, no... Show me where I've ever said that anyone is going to replicate Vansant. What I have said is that switching to a 5-1 would lessen the need to replicate Nelson, since we'd be playing one OPP, rather than two. Otherwise, you'd be plugging in DeHoog for Nelson (unless you put Schwan at the other OPP and Julye at OH). So, any more false controversies you want to throw at me? Anything to keep this thread on the first page during the summer doldrums...

What I want to know is, if any of us are all that good at predicting the future, then why didn't someone tell us that our whole state was going to be on fire in August?

JMac, Karch, Tanner? # 8 recruit in the country with a "Weird hitting motion". I doubt it. Jones will not play OH. Played some in HS but never in club. Doesn't have the passing experience. Teams will target the most inexperienced just like they did last year which will be Schwan. Last years totals: Scambray - 812 Strickland - 619 Vansant - 466 We will see more balanced numbers now that Vansant is gone. She is a great passer. With two years under there belt in the system they won't be able to target anyone. Passing is the key!!!!!!!! Jones could easily play middle if needed. One of the best middles in the country during club.

Doesn't mean that there isn't anything to fix in her hitting motion. If hunky-dory, you'd think she would have hit better than .217 in-conference. It looked to me that her arm-swing was telegraphing where she was hitting. With a freshman, you pretty well take what you got and don't try to make major changes, but I would hope that they worked on her approach and arm-swing in spring practice.

Hey WA fans: redbeard posted the following on the "signing day" thread a couple days ago with respect to UW's 2016 recruiting class: "Washington (expected): 6'2"? Kara Bajema OH (WA) 6'1"? Avalyn Niece MB (WA) 5'7" Shayne McPherson DS/L (WA) 5'6" Cailin Onosko DS/L (CA) If all four sign and Lauren Sanders (6'4" MB) signs for 2017, that'll put them at 12 schollies. While it looks like UW has room for one more this year, that will be Sanders', because UW has no juniors on its roster. That, however, will leave UW with only one MB on its roster, unless Jones or Bajema switch. It is possible that only one of the DS/L's (most likely McPherson) will sign, which would leave room for one more recruit or a transfer." Last night, zenyada posted the following in the Stanford game thread: "Huskies signed L Cailin Onosko yesterday, Torrey Pines HS (#1 CA, #5 National) and Coast VBC. She's excellent. Less physical than Hagglund, Strickland or say Hentz, but intense, cat quick and skilled. Initially, someone else will have to take up the leadership lost with Strickland, but otherwies the change should be seemless at libero." So . . . does this mean that only one of the liberos listed by redbeard will sign, or that one is a walk-on? Anybody know? I'm just surmising - not based on any knowledge (inside or outside) whatsoever. To have a scholarship for another MB in this or next year's class, one or the other DS/L would need to go without. Either might have a 1/0 deal, for instance.

As he mentions McPherson as also being recruited for beach, I wonder if she might be on a beach scholarship, addressing any shortage of indoor scholarships for multiple liberos. (As speculated on earlier in this thread?)
