She seems happy right now and maybe it's not all about playing time. Maybe she's happy at the University of Hawai`i and she doesn't want to go any where else. Because by the journals that she has written it seems to me that she is happy at UH and she's not upset about her playing time. Well if you listen to some of these U$C morons, it's OK to come to a school and sit on the bench your entire career!

Can you now technically make your libero the primary setter? I thought there was a rule about the libero not being alloud to double contact the ball, probably to prevent setters being plugged in as a libero and not playing front row? If there is a rule like that nobody has been calling it, because I've seen a ton of liberos this season setting the ball with their hands. Libero can only hand set to an attacker if they are completely behind the 10 ft line or if the ball drops into/below the plain horizontal/height plane of the net before the hitter contacts it. Therefore the Libero could theoretically be your setter but you would have to pass everything behind the 10 ft line or she would have to bump set those passes in front of the 3m line. This is what SoCal got called for when Nicole Davis dug a ball with her hands on/in-front-of the 10 ft line, and Anderson dumped it down on 2nd contact.

Beachman, since I have been reading this board regularly for the past year or so, I get the feeling that you don't like USC very much. I don't know why I get that feeling, maybe reading between the lines and picking up your subtle points that you make.

OK, it’s something that always has been puzzling me: A top HS athlete goes to a big college program. A lot of HS players have to sit their first year and more or less it’s normal. However in this particular case nothing bright is coming for CT because she sat her first year having a senior setter ahead of her and after that she spent her sophomore season on the bench behind of a freshman. So basically she is 2nd best no matter what and it isn’t likely that something will change.
I know in person some HS “star” players and it's hard to believe they would give up all their ambitions just for the sake of being in some big time college team’s list. They are competitive and competitiveness is what drives them up. From another standpoint any top program needs bench payers who could have been starters almost anywhere else but not there. Honestly I don’t know how coaches/players work out this issue.

NOTHING will ever be construed as "subtle" when it comes to my dislike for U$C, or it's coach!

Foriegnball, you're right on target. I think coaches lavish praise on their players to keep them in the program, even as a back up, and they demean the player if they would really rather see the player move on to another program.
I would add that some high school star players don't ever adjust to the college game, and they remain quite comfortable as a back-up player.

Beachman is bitter because USC is now the top dog in Southern California area, or pretty much the whole of California, and also in the country for the past 2 seasons, while his team has been struggling mightily (after roaring successes in the 90s), being kicked out of the first round of NCAA tournaments for TWO consecutive seasons! He is having a hard time adjusting to the new reality, that his Beach program is just but a pale shadow of its past success.

You are correct in much of what you say.....however, we will be back, with a vengeance! Too much talent, too good a coaching and training staff!

Do you think Debbie Green has the ability to ever be a head coach? Just watching her, I get the sense that she's a lot like Denise Corlett--incredibly talented in a supporting role, but not necessarily the right personality to be a head coach.

While the Beach definitely has the talent, they have to be careful not to run those girls into the ground. Too many injuries over the past 2 seasons for them to be merely coincidental.

I think that Debbie is very comfortable being the #1 assistant

Interesting comment but probably off base a little. Injuries have and will always be a large part of the women's game, period! I think that Long beach's problem was a unique one for them this year and I doubt that it will be repeated, but then again I don't have a crystal ball, do you?

Maybe she'll consider Long Beach State. Just like the setter from San Jose State! Where did you hear Alli Dillon is considering a transfer to the Beach? Fact or rumor? Always thought Alli should have been a 49er. After all it runs in her family! We could use a solid, smart, consistent setter like Alli to feed a bunch of hungry hitters. ;D ;D

If she lands in LBSU, she will be reunited with her club coach. That's the reason why they (above player) think she is considering LBSU.

Don't piss on us just because your players are too busy choking in matches, getting injured, or making a mass exodus to other programs. USC players are happy. LBSU players look miserable.
