That's what I'm asking -- how would you be able to rectify it if the scorekeeper wrote down the wrong sub? There's no backup. 1. The assistant scorer should also be tracking subs. 2. The play by play would, in theory, be recording all subs, and can be used in the event of a protest to verify and correct information. I used it a couple of times this year in situations where I was pretty sure the scorer was wrong, and you can encourage a coach to protest so that you can use that tool to get things right. I don't know if either of these were done in the above situation, I'm just saying there are things that can be done even if the scorer gets things wrong.

April 6, 2012 - UCLA vs BYU in mens volleyball. You can look up the gory details of that protest that was upheld and replayed. I recall watching that! The most bizarre thing I have ever seen in a volleyball match. A call that ended the match in Byu favor. Ref signals match over but Al argued for seemingly 10 minutes or so and the up ref finally says replay. They do and Ucla goes onto win the match. This case seems like an original issue at scorer table and misapplication of penalties. Bizarre as well but there are strange things that happen in sports as other posters have sighted. Protest seems part of a coaches job and the NCAA involvement seems like the proper corrective action in this case. You can never really go back and replay anything 15 minutes or weeks later. Extreme challenge mentally for the players.

I have problems with ISU getting a seed and this doesn't help. But not blaming anyone at ISU, what elde are you supposed to do when officials screw up.

Really feels like Miss New AVCA President did a great job greasing the wheels to give her team the best odds to get this 'win'. I can just hear her and the Big 12 talking the Tech coach into the replay at ISU as 'you know, it's best for the conference if we get another team seeded, so let's just go along with this plan'. If it was that important to her to win with integrity, at least pony up the money and effort to replay it on the original court, not on your home court now. Even without fans in attendance, it's definitely not the home court Tech originally won on. The whole thing stinks IMO. I'm pulling for Tech to beat 'em again at noon. Hope they're feeling really ticked off.... Wow, I didn't realize VolleyTalk had its own tinfoil hat brigade.

I can't wait until we eliminate the scorer, assistant scorer, line judges, and R2 from the game to reduce human error by using technology.

Italy already eliminated line judges and in some cases the R2 with its video challenge system. Most NCAA mens schools are using the e-Scoresheet which eliminates the libero tracker and could eliminate the scoreboard operator if they also purchased the scoreboard interface.

So ISU's loss to Texas Tech is now a win? Ok.
